DPS redesigns Texas driver’s licenses Associated Press April 23, 2009, 7:51AM The Texas Department of Public Safety has redesigned the state’s driver’s licenses and identification cards to enhance security, the agency announced Wednesday. Production of the new cards began April 15 for customers receiving new, renewal or duplicate licenses and ID cards. Current driver licenses and ID cards will be phased out as they expire. “The changes will give law enforcement improved resources for verifying the authenticity of Texas-issued driver licenses and identification cards, while combating counterfeiting, photo swapping, tampering and other types of fraud,” said DPS Director Col. Stanley E. Clark. DPS would not discuss the additional security features. The redesigned cards show the Austin skyline along the top. The last redesign for most licenses and IDs was in June 2001. Last year the agency changed the way ID cards and licenses look for people who aren’t U.S. citizens or permanent residents but still have permission to live in the country. The licenses are marked with the words “Temporary Visitor” and includes the date permission to live in the U.S. expires. Also, the picture and information are displayed vertically, similar to that of a person under age 21.
Agreed!!! NO STATE FLAG?!?!? NO STATE SEAL?!?!? NO STATE COLORS?!?!? NO CAPITAL BUILDING?!?!? WHERE'S THE PRIDE??!?! And, yes, I'M YELLING! My license is expired and I gotta go get a new one. It sucks that it's gonna look like this new piece of crap!
hilarious anyway, when I saw this in the chronicle, the headline is about the austin skyline and I was going to put this in the skyline thread
Well I just received my new "classic" looking driver license card in the mail last week.. Does that mean I'm safe till 2015?
Yes, you lucky b*stard. I'm good until next summer. No wait, I'm good for another few months until I move. Poop.
They already re-did new CHL's to look exactly like this (except they say concealed handgun license instead of drivers license, obviously).
why would it have anything other than the austin skyline? it is the capital of texas. the new license is ass ugly though
What happened to keeping things simple? I liked the classic ones. This feels like when the Rockets changed their uniforms to the pajamas with the flying vibrator on it. Oh, and why does the TEXAS font look like it belongs on a fast food Mexican restaurant instead of an official form of identification?
Wow, I just had my license mailed me last month. I'm good until 2013! I like the previous design MUCH better than this new one. BOOO. Does anyone know how long before you update your photo? My photo was taken when I was 20...I looked so pretty.
