You're only partially correct. Last rendering I saw for Hines' cbd tower was 48 stories, apache will likely be near 40 and BHP will be in the 30-40 range. Brookfields 5 Allen center is proposed 50 although that one may be on the back burner. There's another cbd tower proposed (not Skanska) that was originally 50 stories although it's already been knocked down to 42 or so. Pmrg has already broken ground on their 40 story condo on weslayan and west Alabama. But if you're talking 55+ yeah you're definitely right. What I'd like to see is bolder architecture...
The companies here don't like drawing attention to themselves. All the big oil campuses are pretty concealed unless you drive up to them, otherwise you'd never know they were there. Really the only company that showboats with their buildings is BP. Even the old HP complex on 249 was extremely sprawled and concealed. It's a shame, I'd really like to shove it to Chicago and New York with a massive building of our own.
something eclectic like the Soumaya Museum in Mexico City <img src=http://www.architectmagazine.com/Images/tmpDFB4.tmp_tcm20-754195.jpg> i got that we dont have the richest man in the world living here to build us such a thing, but we gotta make stuff look... weird. not sure what you meant by bold, if thats what you meant.. mexico city really has some cool architecture
I work for BHP in the renovated building (1360). Excited about this new tower being built soon hopefully. http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/...013/02/bhp-signs-lease-for-new-four-oaks.html
There's a YouTube of the Exxon campus... Shows the entire project, very neat. It's all midrise though... Don't expect any towers.
They need to redo and/or demolish the convention center. It's extremely childish and ugly and looks horrible now. Doesn't fit next to Discovery Green or the Hilton. I'm surprised they haven't at least changed the outside yet by now. Also, what happened to the development near Toyota Center? Even though it's in downtown, there is nothing there if you walk to the next block. Where are the restaurants and bars? And don't even get me started about that really scary looking area on the other side of the freeway.
Man I wish they would build some sort of giant 1800 ft sky scraper and just shove it to NYC and Chicago. I mean come on, we are known for making things bigger, this has to be done.
