http://www.scifi.com/battlestar/ Premires tonight at 8 central on Sci-Fi. I'll be watching. But how could they make Starbuck a girl? Apollo maybe... And how can you improve on the original Cylons? They Rokk!
I think it's going to be pretty good. I was watching the one hour primer special the other day. They have put a lot of effort and thought into all aspects of the show. The cast all seem to be pretty good. I think even die-hards of the original will get into this one. While they did draw certain things from the original show, this is not a spin-off or continuation of the original. It is its own show. I'm kind of glad, too. I think the female Starbuck character is going to be good and she's a hottie, too. It was funny on the special I was watching they had her and Dirk Benedict(original Starbuck) talking to each other and being interviewed at none other than a Starbuck's coffee shop. There are some interesting plot points I would love to spill the beans on but I'll just let you see for yourself.
Starbuck looks like she could easily beat up the guy they have playing Apollo. Boomer (the token black guy) got turned into an Asian female ala the black power ranger. The retractable hand cylons look pretty cool too. The episodes I can remember are: the one were starbuck leads a group of kids into defeating some cyclons guarding a castle to resue their father. The kids are always chanting this stupid limerick on how they are going to defeat the robots. The one were Starbuck gets marooned with a cylon that doesn't know they are mortal enemies. He tries to cheat the cyclon at a futuristic card game and almost gets killed for it. Other cylons show up to capture Starbuck, but the forgetful cylon kills them while getting fatally wounded...deprogrammed..whatever. The one were this guy being hunted pretends to be Starbuck's father. The pilot were Apollo's brother bites it. The one with something about that stupid robotic dog (Moffit?) saving them from a fire aboard the ship. There was one where there was this planet with a death star like lazer, but I think it was in one of the ones listed above.
Is there no end to product placement? I assume there are new characters named Frappuccino and Mocha as well...
I heard them say Moffit or any other robotic dog will not be in the show. I remember that fire episode as well in the original series. One of my original favorites is where they were on some planet looking for some fuel(or something) and they ended up gambling at a casino. Underneath the casino were these creatures and a nest where humans were put in chambers(like in a wasp nest or something). The casino elevator would let people come in and then assume control(elevator from hell...lol) while taking them to the nest for storage. They were eating humans or something. I always enjoyed that one. Sci Fi should enjoy some pretty good viewer numbers tonight. This may be the most they draw to date to their channel.
not too shabby so far. I am watching Monster Garage right now though. This vehible they just made is amazing.
I'm enjoying it so far. It's moving right along. Good character development. The new cyclons were pretty cool. All of the space scenes have been good so far and the production quality is high. The plot is good so far and is drawing some of it's plot lines from the original series. The battle scenes are going to be starting up soon. I'm drawn into it.
Pretty weak in my opinion. If you're going to depict the termination of a race, you need to show a little more than just a few flashes. The whole thing was anti-climatic.
I taped it, and only started to watch it, so I'll wait to comment too much until later. So far though, I'm disappointed. They should have made it a sequal. That's really what they tried to do -- placing it further in the future, with completely new characters. They could have easily made it 20 years later, with Commanader (Apollo) Adama in charge of his father's battlestar. IMHO, the changes weren't necessarily bad, but they changed too much to call it the same story. I agree with the origional Apollo's comments, that you can't change two of the major characters (Apollo and Boomer) into females, without changing the characters. They aren't the only characters changed either. Apollo's now a maverick, resentful of his father. All of the "older" pilots, who are supposed to be the leaders, are in their early 20s (Apollo, Starbuck, Boomer, etc.) Colonel Tigh is now a frail, old, bald, white guy, who looks like he's about to fall asleep -- except when he throws a poker table at starbuck. This isn't the same story, but a new one, where they use the names of the origional characters for a stab at nostalgia. So far it looks good -- but it should have ben a sequal.
Cylon #6 could play small forward in the NBA or center in the WNBA. She dwarfs everybody! She should have been named Goliathica.
anyone watch part2 last night? good twist at the end, Boomer being a "sleeper cylon agent" who doesn't even know she is a Cylon. I hope a regular series comes out of this. Cylon #6 can install a chip in my head anytime
I was kind of watching it last night. It's not a bad miniseries, but like most everyone here has said, it's difficult to understand why they insisted on using the character names from the original series.
I believe it did a 3.5 rating and beat out all the other cable stations(not network) on the first night. It came in first place. I believe it did equally well the second night. In summary, Sci-Fi cleaned house. I do believe this will be picked up as a series and my understanding is if it is picked up close to right away...then we will see the series debut next summer. It came straight from the producer's mouth. If it is not picked up, then they just left us with another BG unfinished ending...lol. I enjoyed it for the most part. Some of it was kind of high on the cheese. I would rather not here anyone use the word "frack" ever again in my lifetime. I think they couldn't use the other "f" word so they went with this instead. It just doesn't sound natural for humans who are supposed to be pretty smart and live/travel in space to use such a stupid word. I would have opted for the "s" word which is pretty much legally accepted on cable now(after the South Park episode where they said it one hundred and some odd times). The special effects were pretty good for the most part. I like the part 2 space battle sequences. There was a lot going on and it kind of felt star-wars-ish with so much to take in. The only effects I didn't like is when Starbuck saved Apollo's ship by ramming into it and bouncing into the landing bay. That didn't look real at all and I'm surprised they went with that after the rest of the good efforts(must have run out of money at the end...lol). The plot was enough to keep one's interest. I know for a fact that most of the die-hard BG-ers are whining their little whiny arses right now because it wasn't the original. I was reading some of their comments on some BG forums and I can not believe how anal these people can be. It's a show. So, you didn't get exactly the one you wanted. Big deal! I don't think any re-creation would make these fans happy. But, I believe that people that watched the old show and didn't take it so damn seriously and others who maybe did not watch the original like the newer BG more. This segment of the population will be enough to give the series a chance to succeed. Hell, if Stargate SG-1 is making new shows on Sci-Fi, then how the hell can BG not make it. So, I think it's safe to say this will be a series and, for those who enjoyed it, this is good news. In the end, it is science fiction. It may not be the original BG but who cares. Call it what you will...it still carries the name and a lot of the same plot points.
I think it had far too much sex in it personally (I didn't let my son watch it after a few parts), but I liked the #6. It was especially funny when she jumping Baltar's bones in the CIC. I'd have just let things take their course and cleaned the mess afterward.
