Wont happen untill Pistons get sold. There are rumours about Tom Gores close to buying them.

Still not as good as the current Nuggets unless they get Chris Paul down the road. If Melo is really about winning, why would he go there?

Whoever gets Melo is one of the most interesting topics in the NBA today.

WojYahooNBA: Denver, N.J. and Detroit "progressing" on Melo blockbuster in talks Sunday, front office source says. Denver mining league for best offer.

WojYahooNBA: Nets no longer asking for Detroit 1st rounder and searching for another team to unload Petro on, sources say. Pistons want Murphy for Rip.

WojYahooNBA: Detroit has leverage here, because Melo's agent is pushing Rip inclusion in bigger deal to NJ. Detroit may end up with a 1st out of deal.

WojYahooNBA: There's momentum toward getting a deal done, because
Denver's ready. "They're getting a lot of pressure from Melo's people," executive says.

WojYahooNBA: Would Melo's agent work so hard to get Rip in deal, only have to client refuse $65M contract in NJ? Melo does waffle, but seems unlikely.

Only way I see that happening is if Melo tells the Nets he's not signing extension.

Things definitely are moving forward on the Nets-Den-Det talks. Something could happen "within the next 48 hours."

One source said "tonight or tomorrow." Some things still need to be worked out, but it's picking up steam.

although i would be happy to see carmelo go to the eastern conference, this is a bad move for him if billups seeks a buyout.

If the Nets have a shot at making a playoff push, he would be an idiot to arrange a buyout. A Roster of

    Lopez
    Humphreys (dirty work player)
    Melo
    Rip
    Billups

    + bench-
    Vujacic
    Outlaw
    Farmar

is good enough to make the playoffs even this year. With him running the point, they are a solid team. Remember that Rip was at his best with Billups facilitating the offense in Detriot.

That would be the biggest one season turnaround of any NBA franchise.

*Also, remember this... this deal doesn't happy if Morey did not trade their 2012 pick to New Jersey because NJ would not be able to trade their 2011 and 2012 pick. Morey once again screws the Knicks.

Detroit surprises me a bit as the "third team" in the Anthony trade sweepstakes. They weren't on my radar screen, at any rate. Perhaps someone elses. I've been thinking Morey would worm his way into any deal that evolves from Anthony being traded by Denver, ala the Knicks/Kings deal. Guess we'll see. It sounds like this three-way may have legs (there are usually six!).

WojYahooNBA: Denver needs Detroit in 3-way for max savings, but have alternate deals in place with NJ. Obstacle left is NJ-DET working out Rip for Murphy

WojYahooNBA: Source: DEN keeps telling NY it doesn't like its pieces, and when NY asks for direction on what to go get for Nugs, DEN hasn't been clear.

WojYahooNBA: Denver wants draft picks. New Jersey has them. New York doesn't. That's a big factor here.

WojYahooNBA: Denver has never been motivated to do this deal with New York. Melo can demand Knicks or nothing, but isn't doing that now.

WojYahooNBA: Denver's considerate of Billups feelings, but ultimately he's under contract and has no real leverage to stop a deal to Jersey, or anywhere.
