Who is running this place? My goodness.. Monday, October 10, 2011 DVDs will be staying at netflix.com http://blog.netflix.com/2011/10/dvds-will-be-staying-at-netflixcom.html It is clear that for many of our members two websites would make things more difficult, so we are going to keep Netflix as one place to go for streaming and DVDs. This means no change: one website, one account, one password… in other words, no Qwikster. While the July price change was necessary, we are now done with price changes. We’re constantly improving our streaming selection. We’ve recently added hundreds of movies from Paramount, Sony, Universal, Fox, Warner Bros., Lionsgate, MGM and Miramax. Plus, in the last couple of weeks alone, we’ve added over 3,500 TV episodes from ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS, USA, E!, Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, ABC Family, Discovery Channel, TLC, SyFy, A&E, History, and PBS. We value our members, and we are committed to making Netflix the best place to get movies & TV shows. Thank you. -Reed
I bet at this point if we say we want a free upgrade (extra DVD) he will probably sent out another email saying so. So at this point what are our demands?
Sounds like they were going to try something, figured out it wouldn't work, and were good enough to do what their consumers demand.
It's pretty clear Netflix has been hijacked. The good news is this suddenly about-face from innovative, customer oriented, fair-priced service provider to greedy, stupid, short-sighted 'service' provider will open up a lot of the market for competition to get off the ground.
Amazon should be taking over. When Amazon starts selling 3 months or month subscriptions, they'll dominate the market...
I will give them credit for being willing to admit that they may have made a mistake and correcting it. There are plenty of individuals out there that would have rolled out Qwikster and stuck with it until it ran its course.
I don't like Prime's selection when I looked, and until they stream through consoles, they are going to be behind.
They just got Star Trek DS9 (easily my favorite ST series) on their instant stream a little over a week ago, so I really don't care what else they do.
Did they also say it after Jobs announced, "Nevermind. We won't sell an ipad after all"? It's great they were able to own up to their mistakes and all, but these mistakes were so colossally bad that they should have never been made in the first place.
Good write up about how dumb the idea was - http://www.channelmavenconsulting.com/2011/09/netflix-so-wron/
