I'm gonna watch this tomorrow if I have time Death Note is my favorite anime of all time so I hope they don't **** this up
I thought you guys were kidding when you said it was bad.. I'm only 15 minutes in and it's.. different.. different for no reason...
If this was pitched as a multiple movie project, why did they rush everything? L shouldn't have been in this movie until the very end. This first movie should have all been about the Death Note, it's rules, and Light and Mia's character development. Devote the 2nd film to L and Light's cat and mouse game. The third film should be the conclusion of the arch and maybe continue the story some how. This movie was taking shortcuts that weren't needed at all.. Once you realize this isn't supposed to be a shot for shot recreation of the anime, it isn't THAT bad. I think it was pretty disappointing though. Light's character is what makes Death Note so fascinating and they screwed homie up big time.
Yeah, this Netflix movie is very similar to high school horror genre if that makes any sense? Like the Scream and I know what you did last summer but with a notebook. It's actually pretty funny. The comedy is good in this. I'll say this though, it's not touching the anime or the original movies from Japan, not even close. Those are very complex detective thriller whereas this Netflix movie is Teen Drama Horror.
This movie was really bad. Mix of Mr. Robot, Final Destination, 13 reasons why. Watch the anime. I'm giving up hope that Hollywood can make live-action anime/ manga.
I thought it was pretty cool. But my wife, who is all about dat' anime life, wanted to slap me after liking it.
10 minutes in...light isn't supposed to be a little b****. He's a manipulative genius from the start...kinda destroys the theme of Deathnote tbh.
I loved the anime, but based on the comments in this thread, it seems like the movie didn't do it justice
As soon as he started the Home Alone-esque screaming, I started to view it as a comedy horror-ish movie.
Never seen the anime The only thing that was memorable for me was Willem Dafoe's voice acting. It was pretty obvious from the beginning where girly-girl was heading. Not a lot of unexpected to it at all.
They gutted the characters of L and Light which gutted the movie. The whole story was rushed and compressed Rocket River
They literally made Light into a b**** who screams like a girl in this. Geezus, how hard is it to make him a highly intelligent and socially manipulative mastermind. They literally just had to have the actor copy his mannerisms and demeanor from the manga.
Never watched the anime. This movie was garbage. I honestly find it hard to believe that this was published. For those who know the backstory, maybe they didn't notice just how hollow and meaningless Light, the girl and the detective were. Acting was unbearable. Ryuk looked like something they had to do before CGI was invented. The ending was silly. Wow. Super disappointing. This is what happens when you try to commercialize Japanese storytelling. @DreamShook made a great point, this entire movie could have been dedicated to developing Light's and Ryuk's character, receiving the notebook and it could have ended with the appearance of L and the birth of the master plan. What a waste of money.
