Haven't heard anything yet. They spent a lot of money making the first season. I haven't seen anything indicating how popular the show has been, overall.
Teaser alert: Naked women kung fu! <img src="http://i1.wp.com/www.lostlaowai.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/marco-polo-capture-021.jpg" width=800>
I'm enjoying it. We've only made it through episode 4, but will certainly watch the rest. I'm just ignoring the liberties taken with history, viewing it purely as entertainment, and I think it's entertaining. Nice choice for Marco Polo and yes, the cat looks like Parsons. I'm trying hard not to hold it against him. Diggin' the naked chicks all over the place. What's not to like?
I only watched episode 1 and didn't feel any special compulsion to watch episode 2. It's no Invisible Cities. But, it seems the consensus is that it gets better. So maybe I'll try some more.
I'm really becoming tired of the pretentious psudo-intellectual critics that rotten tomatoes chooses. I don't even bother looking at them anymore.
brother you have to get past the first few episodes then it takes off, at least watch the episode where they do 'kung fu'
doubtful. think it cost like $90m to make, and I have no clue how Netfilx judges how one series on a monthly streaming service makes money. 6 eps in...I don't love it but I really like it. Will definitely finish it soon.
I'm sure they can accurately see how many people are watching it and rating it because they are basically all subscribers.
Shyeahhh right.. On average, there's probably 3 different users per subscription. Thanks Netflix and your lax policy on devices used.
just finished nice blue princess ending with the painting by her new suitor. I find it exquisite. So, the next season hook is about her? Rumors are she has dragons. Oh, and I'm with Buck Turgidson on the surprising mongol rap song at the end of ep10. That could work...
Finished it last night. For a series, I thought it was above average. Enough to keep your attention, but not great. Agreed on the blue princess storyline not adding much but being there just as a love interest for Marco. I did think Khutulun was much more attractive. The best parts about Marco Polo would be the production, kung fu, interesting story premise. The negatives would be the story telling and characters were pretty flat. I would have preferred more plot twists to keep it interesting, and the characters to have better explained motives and villains to have some redeeming qualities. I think they tried to make this series similar to Spartacus, but Spartacus did it much better. However, I don't agree with all the reviews that trashed this series. It was good enough to be entertaining, and hopefully deserving of another season.
I finished up the last episode tonight. This pretty much summed up how I felt about the show. It kept me interested enough to watch a couple episodes a night, but not interesting enough to keep me up past bedtime. There were several parts that could have been fast forwarded through. Overall, it was a decent show. A decent watch if there is not much else on. I did feel a Spartacus vibe and it fell flat. The gratuitous sex and nudity got old pretty fast. However Khutulun was very nice, and even fully clothed I enjoyed her on screen. Season 2 has been green lighted as expected.
I just finished it and thought MP was a joy to watch. I don't understand why many here thought it wouldn't get renewed for a second season. It's a Netflix original series and previous ones (e.g. House of Cards) have had multiple seasons. The decision to use 10 episodes on this one was a clever and safe move by Netflix. I'm looking forward to season two. Can't believe no one is mentioning how bad ass Jia Sidao was as Khan's nemesis. Sidao's praying mantis kung fu was an homage to some good old Chinese martial arts which I loved. I also liked Byamba and Ahmed. The whole show felt like something out of Mortal Kombat. And yes Marco does look like Chandler Parsons lol
This is one of those times where I feel most reviews were way off. I enjoyed this a lot more than I was expecting and I'm looking forward to S2.
I was very entertained. Is some of it perhaps a little obvious or typical to this type of storyline? Perhaps... Sure. But it was done extremely well and in an entertaining fashion. Also I thought the opening credit scene is really good. I've found the GoT opening credit tiresome. Same with House of Cards. Perhaps this will/would get tiresome too, but for now it is great. Also I really liked the campfire Mongolian chanting music in the last episode. Had a good sound to it. Kind of reminded me of that Mayan death horn thing there were videos of a few months back.
