If I had a nickel for every time I told myself "I should read 3 Body Problem" I'd at least have enough to buy 2 Jack in the Box tacos.

They just bought the Script and re-filmed it.

China is stuck with the original version whose SFX is probably not that amazing.

Moves a lot faster than the books / pretty good thru the first 4 episodes. Only minor criticism is that it still feels very localized to the UK vs being a worldwide phenomena.

3 episodes in, about to start the 4th...but I have questions, from a person who didn't read the source material.

    1. If our new alien overlords have already left their chaotic/dying planet and are heading towards Earth, what's the point of the headgear assigned to the world's best scientists? From what I gather, the main point of Levels 1, 2 and 3 are just trying to figure out the "riddle" of that specific level, all to finally advance to level 4. And I guess the people who reach level 4 are invited to a secret shindig. I would understand all this if the aliens were still trying to figure out how to save their own planet, and the whole "two heads are better than one" thing. But as they've since left, why would they want to announce that they're essentially coming?

It's made even more confusing since

    2. The "pacifist" was the one who contacted the Chinese woman back in 1966, warning her not to reply back. She replied back, and I'm assuming the emigrating aliens are more war-like than pacifist. So why would the aliens give up an element of surprise? I just don't get it.

    3. Why kill off Jack, who dropped out of Oxford and is making potato chips, at the end of ep3? Instead of having a conversation and trying to first convince Jack to play the "game," they just straight up killed him. He's not even a scientist like the rest of them but he was still invited. If the show really needed to kill someone off, they should have made Raj, Jin's military boyfriend, a nonbeliever, and killed him off.

    4. The show makes the group out to be a core group of friends/colleagues, but there's no sort of comraderie between any of them. And as a result, I personally don't really care about any of the characters besides the woman in 1966 China / Jin's mom. So when Jack died, I was like...oh well.

I'm sure it gets better in episodes 4-8, but it's been kinda slow for me, and I have more questions and concerns than when I first started watching.

I've only got through the first book, but apparently this season takes stuff from the second book too. So I guess I'll try to get through that first before starting the show.
