If he was coming back, this wouldn't be a hold up. He'd just take the 3 years. Instead...he's looking for more money. So we either pony up more than we originally needed to, or he's gone. Either way...annoying. Not a HUGE issue in the grand scheme of things, just somewhat annoying. We had a sweetheart deal in the bag last night.
Rockets can still pay Nene $15M, but it will have to dip into their non-taxpayer ($8.4M) MLE. Maybe they do it. It seems that they are already using a small portion of it for Zhou Qi.
Well he can't take 4 years anywhere. I'm sure they will find a way to enhance a 3 year offer and get him on board.
yeah but he can probably get a better 3 year deal elsewhere from a team willing to dip into their exceptions..
Looks like either 1) Nene looks around his offers and decide that he'd still prefer Houston, even at $11M, or 2) the Rockets decide to spend a part of the MLE ($8.4M, minus whatever they paid Zhou Qi) on Nene to pay him what he wants. It's a matter of resource allocation.
Explanation per u/yoyoyodawg3 which sounds plausible. (Morey) Tried to argue that the league year starts on July 1st when the CBA language implies it starts October 1st. Of course to Houston's unfortunate luck Nene's 38th birthday happens to fall in that timeframe.
no disrespect to nene or his fans, but why the F are we even wasting time with him on day 1 when all the real FA's are getting snapped up like clockwork? i mean this is a guy we had to regularly keep out of games all season long, and then lost against SAS because he went down for good. instead of dicking around with guys we can get on the cheap i wish we'd find a solution to the donut in the middle whenever capela sits or is overpowered by any player who weighs more than 235lbs
