They do go through scouting reports, and feedbacks from coaching. However, that might not matter as much as friends circle jerk or support for teammates. Just look at fifa/ European football. Look at the player voting results. Lol
But a fantastic way for the players association to get some sponsorship money of their own. @Bimathug, I assume nothing in the CBA prevents the players association from monetizing its own awards?
I'm pretty sure the whole damn Clippers team voted Harden over Curry for MVP because of their big rivalry lol.
Is it just me or shouldn't Anthony Davis be a lock for DPOY? Green, Leonard, Jordan are all decent candidates IMO, but honestly I think the award should easily go to Davis.
John Wall is not a fan: @TimBontemps: There are plenty of players who seem excited about the idea of the NBPA voting on season long awards. One who isn't, though, is John Wall. @TimBontemps: Wall, on if he had voted for the NBPA's Player's Choice Awards (ballots were handed out at shootaround today): "No, and I probably won't." @TimBontemps: Wall also made a compelling argument against players getting votes, saying that he didn't trust them to be impartial in their votes. @TimBontemps: Wall: "As players, we know who the players are, but sometimes your pride and ego come in & you don't want to see that person get an award."
i wonder what affect this will have on diluting the value of the "real" awards that the media vote on.
I'm thinking 0. More headlines, more debates, more radio topics, more rivalry, more revenue. Media votes still carry the historical credibility.
Moses Malone won his MVP based on player vote. Kareem, Wilt, Russell - all considered all time greats have won based on player vote.
maybe, but the timing of the awards could be a key factor. suppose the players awards come out first, it might put pressure on media to sway their vote. although i bet there would've been a unified selection for lebron as MVP in the years that he won, same for MJ, magic, bird, etc... i think the players and the media would've agreed with those guys.
I think it would be funny if curry won MVP but then nba players voted harden MVP It's funny all these non warrior players pick harden I think players know steve and steph are douches
Really? Do players even like Harden? He really has that flopper stigma attached to him, even if it is unfair. I don't think Matt Barnes is the only player that thinks he gets too much calls. I know a few have come out to respect Harden, but really the list is not long.
I want to say players did this back in the day. This year, top three will look just like top three from media awards. Historically? Nash probably wins none. Kobe would win at least one more. Duncan doesn't win as many. Shaq would have won more.
