I'll admit that I don't remember much about Stockton's defense. How did he fare against a dude like Kevin Johnson? That would tell me more than his steal numbers. It seems like there were more athletic, scoring point guards ala Marbury, Francis, etc. with whom Nash would have to contend without hand checking than Stockton (not saying there were none).

As far as Paul goes, I think the hype overrates him. He never gets anywhere in the playoffs and he's had talent esp. with the Clippers. Plus, he's an ass and has very annoying commercials. My two cents.

And I said that. come on. I said it in the OP, and I said it in the paragraph you cheery-picked. Lazy minds cherry pick posts.

You forgot to highlight the last sentence of that statement, where I mention MJ. There was no way the Nets nor the Cavs were a match in the finals. The West was it all those years.

And of course, you missed the main point of that paragraph, because you are lazy minded.

I'm saying Nash's playoff numbers were significantly better in the playoffs than the regular season, while Stockton had a noticeable drop in the playoffs. That fact renders a lot of comments about Nash's defense meaningless. The guy did not lose anything due to his defense. Dude completely outplayed Tony Parker. Parker did not expose Nash's defense. I'm sorry.

there's a great graphic in the other Nash thread that shows that. props to shastarocket

Kinda shows how D'Antoni shouldn't really get credit for Nash's playmaking ability.

Andre Miller... before his last season ('13-'14) at least.

In his first 14 seasons he only missed 6 total games*.

Meaning, out of 1,132 possible games, he played in 1,126... 99.46%

His final season he missed 24 games... only playing in 58 of 82.

His final games played tally is 1,184 of 1,224... 96.73%

    *stats only include regular season

Two big similarities between Stockton and Miller are 1) PGs and 2) didn't depend on athleticism.

Ac Green and Cliff Robinson also come to mind, but don't feel like researching;)

AC Green missed 2 games in his 2nd season and never missed another game, like over 1000 consecutive games. He actually made up 1 of the 2 he missed. In a trade year he actually played 83 games for two teams.

15 seasons of perfect attendance, with 14 in a row.

The Mavs went farther without Nash. The Suns sucked w/o Mike D. Seems pretty open and shut to me.

Are you really going to attempt this history discussion with me.

wtf -- Nash had Alvin Gentry as a coach and went to the WCF by SWEEPING the Spurs and lost to Kobe and Gasol in 2010!???

Mike D'Antoni was 21-40 after taking over early in 2004 season with Amare, Joe Johnson and Shawn Marion

The next year they got Nash and won 62 games. Every knows the difference was Nash vs Marbury, except you and LOFs, I guess.

Now, let's look at D'Antoni record after Nash. Do you want to look at it? D'Antoni is a joke since Nash,,,we all know that, except you and LOFs, i guess.

One of Dallas's best years was 2003 with Nash.
Nash beat Dallas his very first year after leaving 4-2 in the Playoffs.
Then Nitwitz beat Nash back the next year in a tough WCF before Dallas loses 4 in a row to Wade and disappears from Playoff relevance for four years
Then Dallas loses first round the following to Baron Davis
Then Dallas loses first round again to Paul
Then Dallas loses 2nd round 4-1 to Nuggets to Chauncy Billups
Then Dallas loses first round again to Parker while Nash SWEEPS the Spurs the next round 4-0
Then Cuban finally listens to Carlisle and adds Chandler for defense

    Reinvent history much.

What? Yeah, Dallas was GREAT, while Nash's playoff success was due to D'Antoni

You don't think Nash would have made a difference to those PGs who were destroying Dallas?

Seems pretty clear to me you just made that up.

Are you saying Dallas did NOT go farther without Nash? Or that Nash was better without Mike D? Try sobering up and then come back.

stupid straw man argument. so lame.

    Don't even try

Very simple...Nash did not need D'Antoni. Destroying the Spurs in four with Coach Alvin Gentry and getting to the WCF proved that.

Are you really going to say Dallas didn't miss Nash, while they were playoff fodder for four years of Nash's prime losing to top PGs each year?

What? You running away from the history lesson that I can recite in my sleep.

If it was eliminated in 1994, it wasn't enforced until the 2000s. I recall Harper bullying Smith in the Finals.
