Houston was against secession in keeping with his lifelong intent of making Texas a state, and didn't think slavery was worth leaving the Union, but he had slaves.
It was so bigly that it wasn't listed as a reason. Instead of reading the actual document that lists the reasons for independence you want to cobble together random quotes to establish it. That is textbook revisionism.
