If he isn't sterile, from the pot use, it's a bad idea, because of the pot use.

The ongoing drug use could lead to all kinds of pregnancy problems and birth defects. And the alchohol vs. pot arguement is silly. Alchohol causes significant problems for a pregnant mother. But ongoing drug use -- you aren't even talking about occasional use here -- can cause a lot of problems.

It does sound like she's on the rebound and looking for a way to rope him in. There's no way having a child together can not be personal.

 

I agree with majority of everyone here, I think it is crazy to want to raise a child without out a father. It is selfish on her part for not wanting to be in a stable relationship. The reason their is so many emotionally messed up children because adults do not make logical decisions when it comes to having children. I think she is the one smoking pot!

 

That is an ignorant statement. Not all drug-users are horrible, washed out freaks.

 

Strangely enough there was a "Dear Abby" about this in the Chron this week...my coworker was telling me about it. It basically said what Refman said.....guy gives sperm to friend, she moves away, he marries and has kids, friend shows up with lawyer, now guy is broke.

DCSports.....please show me the data proving a correlation between pot use and sterility or birth defects. Not that I smoke, but I dont believe it. Maybe I just know lucky people but a lot of my friends, male and female, smoked their fair share of pot in their pre-parental days and they have quite a lot of healthy normal kids. Well, normal is pushing it.

 

So what do you mean by drug users? Like pain pills, or crack? How can you take up for anyone who wants to put drugs into their bodies?

Maybe Martha should just get a dog if she dosent have one already. Or consider adoption. This is a terrible idea from both sides. Espically your friend what is he going to tell his future wife or future kids. If he ever decides to settle down. There going to think he some kind of freak. as for martha she just need to relax, shes probaly just lonely. When she is raising a kid by her self than she will really feel lonely

 

i'm always curious as to why a woman would CHOOSE to be a single mother. sometimes it happens for unexpected and undesirable reasons, but to choose it as a first choice seems strange to me. maybe they get sick of men and figure they're better off without them. i've seen some talk shows with situations where these kids want a baby, but not a father for the baby. and some of the psych analysis i've heard regarding the situation is that the potential single mother is really just wanting affection and love and thinks she will received it through the child. and if she has had trouble finding decent men, she's very likely to think that she's best doing it on her own. well, i can understand getting sick of men and i can understand wanting something to take care of and something to love and love you back. but in my opinion, you should do one of two things in that situation:

1. be patient in your search for mr. right, the right loving father and husband, to raise a family with

2. get a dog
