I'm just going to come out and say it -- this is a serious problem. It's now clear that the Tsarnaev brothers were motivated by Islam. Here's the latest quote from their mother:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=muMu0ay9xJM

Many of you will say, "oh but what about McVeigh, the Unabomber, the Colorado kids, etc". First off their death totals are tiny compared to the handywork of the Muslims, and secondly they aren't killing in the name of Christianity or atheism or whatever they believe.

The brothers Tsarnaev were doing this based on their Islamic religious beliefs.
    So were the 9/11 killers
So was Richard Reid the shoe bomber
So was Nidal Malik Hassan at Fort Hood
    So were the London bombers
    So were the Madrid bombers
    So was the underwear bomber
So was the Times Square attempted bomber
    There are more.

There needs to be a lot more policing of their own going on. The responses I've heard from Muslims on this one started with "oh please don't let it be a Muslim" to "oh these guys aren't really Muslim" to "Well these guys are the equivalent of your Westboro folks". How about more discussion around how to prevent this in the future, instead? Tamerlan's outbursts in the mosque were cause for concern -- how about next time you speak up? There's a major problem.

Ok, I'll let all of my Muslim friends and family know that it's not cool to be a terrorist.

Well we have more surveillance and a little more invasion of our privacy, but that hasn't proved that it will actually prevent terrorism so it's not worth it #2ndamendmentlogic

Look at all the civilians we have killed on their turf...remember this is a war, these people are thir soldiers. I still like to believe that the troops killing of every civilian was unintentional, but how do you think the people over there see it? We have a major presence in their country with jets huge bombs, tanks, ect but our is moral because we are "correct"

All religion has contradictions, but Islam has major flaws in its text, which help to manipulate folks, especially in countries where the people have very little to lose or live for.

The bible does too, but christianity has minimized the old testement by writing a new one, Islam needs that to right the ship, imo.

The US has a major presence in Chechnya? Oh I must have missed that.

And to all the people talking about the collateral damage in our wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, I'd just like to point out the major difference between collateral damage in war and the killing of innocents based on deliberate training, which these Muslim terrorists are doing. Some of my Muslim friends on facebook are highlighting the collateral damage in Afghanistan as being equivalent, which is simply biased, ignorant thinking.

Sure is. But it doesn't make them anything close to a terrorist. This policing of your own crap has been brought up before. You're acting like Muslims in the US know other Muslims that are capabale of killing.

Anti-US rhetoric/discussions have been going on since I was a kid. Iran this. Iraq that. That's nothing new.

Police their own what? There's no single uniform Islam, so what's their "own"? Who's own? Shall Muslims become responsible for every dumb f*** that calls himself a Muslim? Should I hold you responsible for every action Christians around the world take?

Barely anyone shares their core ideology. Those who do share it, consider this a solution rather than a problem. So they're not going to police anything.

What regular Muslim is going to be so dumb as to police people with whom they do not share these core beliefs like.. ummm.... indiscriminate killing of innocent civilians? Is the Muslim guy who is peaceful and respectful to everyone suddenly going to decide to police terrorists on the basis that terrorists refer to themselves as Muslims too? What if the terrorists called themselves Jews but attended mosques, then who would be responsible? What if they called themselves Muslims and attended church? What if they prayed like Muslims 6 days a week and went to church on Sundays? What if they believed in Satan, would we then blame Satanists?

Muslims don't expect you to act responsible for Anders Breivik, and you shouldn't expect them to act responsible for Tsarnaev. Muslims don't believe you are a peace maker just because you call yourself that, and they don't believe that Tsarnaev is a Muslim just because he calls himself that.

These guys were American residents, originally from somewhere else just like 99.99% of Americans. As far as 99.99% of Muslims are concerned, these are YOUR own, so YOU should police them. This guy and his accomplices are responsible for their own actions, and they'll be held accountable by appropriate authorities in the appropriate jurisdiction.

We purposely killed hundreds of thousands of Iraqis illegally and needlessly in Iraq, whether you want to admit it or not. What is more, most of the world knows this and unfortunately many are so pissed off they would like to take revenge.

These guys are in many ways just some more evil blowback from our Afghan, Iraq and drone wars. Keep on with the old Dubya era "they hate us for our freedoms" or the common they hate us due to their bad religion.

Tamerlan had outbursts in his mosque in Boston and his family knew he was going radical. It sure would have been nice for somebody to say something...

so yes, there was an opportunity to self-police

What exactly did the Russian government say? Did they reference the mosque outbursts? His parents' comments?

The people in the mosque did speak up.

Nothing about his outbursts in the mosque were indications of violence. The people in the mosque did speak up and told him to leave. He was also told by others he'd either have to to stop the outbursts or not come back.

    two things

    1) The Muslim response is typical. Defiance rather than looking for solutions

    2) Why are American liberals so willing to defend Islam? One would think Islam's position on gays and women's rights would be a turn off...

    1. Muslim groups and mosques came out immediately condemning the bombings. There was no defiance.

    2. Nobody is defending any position against women and homosexuals. It isn't about whether anyone is in love with those positions it's about not wanting people to make stupid generalizations that don't help solve the problem.

How do you prevent an attack like this? Ban Gunpowder, Guns, and Pressure cookers? This doesn't sound like a complicated terrorist plot.

Holmes killed 12 people and I didn't see a thread from Bigtexxx saying: Guns - It's a problem.

What is Christianity's view on homosexuality? Don't worry, I'll wait. What year were women allowed to vote in the US? When did the civil rights movement occur?

The US has been backwards too.

What it sounds like is that you think Muslim people don't have better ish to do than going around trying to spot potential terrorists.

Im not sure where you're going with this. The OP stated ideology was the issue, not the weapon.

It wasn't the guns that killed people, it was Holmes warped mind.
