So lately I have been getting into Japanese noise artists or "Japanoise" artists - Boredoms, Ruins, Melt Banana, etc. But I am currently listening to the Godfather of all Japanese noise makers in Merzbow - this dude has more albums than Frank Zappa, Sun Ra, and Miles Davis put together! I have heard a lot of weird stuff in my time but this stuff is the weirdest. It is like Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music but with a little bit more variety. When you first listen to it, your brain desperately wants to make it sound familiar and attach melodies but then gives up and just turns to mush when it is obvious that all you are going to hear is an onslaught of noise, lol.

Gigo - who do you like better:
Boredoms, Ruins, Toe, Boris, Melt-Banana, or other?

I didn't put Merzbow because he just seems to be on another level from these other dudes with his enormous discography and doing all the frequencies and white noise, lol.

At the moment, I have a soft spot for Toe and Boris. But I've only listened to just some of their stuff and a very very few of the other bands.

I haven't exposed myself to Merzbow too much, but for some reason I like his album 1930. Maybe because John Zorn & Ikue Mori were involved in the album, but I'm not sure.

Yea, I almost got that Merzbow album and I will get it eventually (maybe as early as tonight!). I am really digging Boredoms out of all of those bands I have listed. The last 2 albums I got by them in Super Ae and Seadrum/House of Sun sound like a collaboration between Sun Ra and some of the better krautrock out there by Can and Amon Duul. And I am absolutely fond of both Sun Ra and krautrock so needless to say when I listened to these 2 albums, I went nuts!

This is the first Boris I've heard and still adore.
