These guys are from the Clear Lake area and I’ve seen them about 10 times. I remember when they had their first and only mainstream nationwide hit single Vanishing Cream everyone thought they were going to make it big (because they were damn good). I think they still run a bar in the Clear Lake Area called Scout Bar that occasionally has live music. I’ve talked to them a few times over the years - nice guys. According to Wikipedia they are working on a new album.
Looks like I was off with Scout Bar- they have bands all the time. Looks like Industrial vet Skold will be there next Wednesday 7/17. I'm thinking about going, but I'm an old fart and man...7:30 showtime? That's late
Hell, Ministry and old Uncle Al are still dropping albums. He’s incredibly active both touring and putting out new material.
Yep. The two brothers Thomas and Jeff are friends of mine. Thomas owns Scout bar. They’ve never given up writing and playing music. This is my wheelhouse. I fronted an industrial band for many years. Ironically enough I’m working on a new album (was recording last night) that I’ve had the idea for for years now. I’ll probably share it in the future. I’ll give you some things that I like...
Skinny Puppy is probably my fave industrial band. They’ve been around since the early 80’s and still put out music and it’s really good. Also frontman Ohgr puts out solo material.
Not really sure I’d classify this as industrial but I really like “Lorn”. One guy writes it all and I believe he even does his own videos. Its got a really different feel, really dig it
@mikol13 Awesome input! 3Teeth was on my to-listen-to list. I remember Skinny Puppy- it was on my radar in High School but a bit too extreme for my then-country-boy ears. When do you start recording? Do you have any of your stuff online for streaming?
Yeah I highly recommend getting into Puppy. Don’t even have to start with their early stuff. I absolutely love the album Mythmaker. Check that out in full. Recording soon, but finishing up writing now. I’ll put the new stuff up as I finish.
Giving Ministry's Psalm 69 a re-listen and it has really held up. The biggest thing I've noticed with 'old' music vs what is coming out now is that older stuff is slower than music now. Not the case with this album. One of my all time favorite songs Just One Fix. Reminds me of when I saw Ministry at Lollapaloza 92....I was absolutely floored by the energy of the music. Ministry stole the show, and that is saying a lot.
Obviously NIN but newish Manson album was surprisingly not bad... I am not super into MM though, so I listened to it expecting it to be the regular phone in. Maybe because my expectations were like 0.. it's got a few decent tracks
NWO was aslo a good one from that album. Get this... I saw Ministry perform after I watched Ice Cube perform. Then went back to my spot on the lawn to watch Pearl Jam, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and Soundgarden, and Alice in Chains..... The side stage had Rage Against the Machine, Tool, Porno for Pyros, Cypress Hill, House of Pain, Smashing Pumpkins, Stone Temple Pilots, NIN, Ice-T, Luscious Jackson, and Temple of the Dog. ....Lollapalooza '92. Friggin' INSANE lineup. I was there. Still have the T-shirt.
Man, this is excellent. I've been going through and listening to more Ministry- I still like the old school stuff better than the newer albums. New stuff is just way, way too preachy and over-sampled.
Love this record. May as well listen to Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste as well. Still great. While you’re on that sound, even NIN Broken EP. Maybe even KMFDM Naive. There stuff became very stale, but I like this record a lot.
Doesn't seem to be that many of these bands that made it big. Kind of surprising after the success of Nine Inch Nails. I went to the Wikipedia page for Industrial Metal bands and I think all the bands I was aware of had already been mentioned in this thread.
Niche genre. NiN is transcendent and hit at the right time in the late 80's early 90's when Gen X was pushing experimental music sales. https://www.music-map.com/nine+inch+nails
