We all have our favorites and there are those artists that for whatever reason take an eternity to release a new album. This idea came to me earlier today as I listened to the last studio albums by D’Angelo and Maxwell. It’s hard to believe that it has been like 9 years and 7 years since we last heard from these dudes but that they are supposedly “working” on new material (yea right). Others that fall into this include

    Frank Ocean
    Sampha
    Rihanna
    My Bloody Valentine

Now to be eligible, the artist must still be considered “active” and not on hiatus. So, who are some artists that you wonder “will they ever release another album?”

I'm not sure the sound of this album can be recreated.

    Ween

And even though they’re my favorite band, I wish The Smashing Pumpkins would stop making albums.

I mean, my #1 should be pretty obvious. I thought after the reunion tour it might happen, but now it's pretty clear that it never will since Sting has all the money he will ever need and then some.

    Some others:

    System of a Down
    Ben Folds Five

TV on the Radio. Going on 9 years now.

The last two albums weren't that great, but the two before that were superb. Feel like they're primed to drop one of those distinguished comeback albums (a la Dinosaur Jr, Slowdive, etc.)

Maybe LCD Soundsystem would be cool as well.

Seriously! Last album was like 2005. What's the story here?

    Does Jane's Addiction qualify?

I'd imagine it's pretty hard to get motivated to write and record as you're doing naked yoga at sunrise on the beach of your private island.

Everything I've heard is that Serg (singer) isn't really into it anymore. The other 3 are still 100% ready and Daron (guitar) has a backlog of material ready to record.

    It's always the lead singer.

These guys always seemed like they were into some seriously heavy drugs. That said, they still play live shows, so? /shrug

Unknown Mortal Orchestra is a band/guy that I think has left me wanting way more over the past 5-6 years.

There's bands like Radiohead that I feel like have nothing left to prove, and you kind of want them to not come back up unless they have something ground breaking that drives their music forward.

How about Mercury Rev? PJ Harvey is taking her sweet time in releasing a new album.

Why not the Fugees while we're at it (even more unlikely)

It would have to have Eric Avery on it or I want none of it. Personally think he’s the unsung hero of that band.
