Cars 2 announced today. I know there's some dislike for the first Cars movie...but my kids (and I) really enjoy watching and re-watching the first one. Curious to see if they can get the same voice cast as the first. http://www.digitalspy.com/movies/news/a232684/john-lasseter-returns-to-direct-cars-2.html John Lasseter returns to direct 'Cars 2' John Lasseter will co-direct Cars 2 with Brad Lewis, reports Jim Hill Media. Lasseter, the chief creative officer at Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios, helmed the first Cars movie and was expected to hand over the reins to Lewis for the follow-up to 2006's box office hit. Pixar's first feature-length movie Toy Story was helmed by Lasseter. He also co-directed A Bug's Life and Toy Story 2. The filmmaker has been credited in some capacity on each of Pixar's 11 movies. Cars 2 is slated for release on July 22, 2011.
The kids enjoyed it, but after the incredibles, nothing has seemed to be any good, IMHO... I haven't seen Toy story 3, but have heard good things about it...
Cars is probably my least favorite of the Pixar films, just didn't have the usual Pixar energy for me. That being said I'd probably rewatch Cars before going to see part 2 when it hits.
UGH! Cars and Incredibles are the only two Pixar movies I really don't like all that much. They've really been on a roll since with some VERY good films though. What the hell are they even going to do for the sequel? That story seemed pretty wrapped up and they did all they could do with the characters/world. So, are they now in re-hatch mode... 2010: Toy Story 3... 2011: Cars 2... 2012: Incredibles 2?
I don't think I'm going out on a limb when I say that Toy Story and Cars are by far their biggest cash cows. Cars is probably the worst Pixar movie, but every little kid I know (and I have a 4 and 1 year old) has at least one Car from the movie. We're pretty anti-commercialized toys, and we still have a few Buzz Lightyears, Lightning McQueen, and about 10 other cars from the movie. They're going to make a lot of money on this movie. It practically markets itself.
to me Cars in terms of story was the weakest Pixar film by far in terms of its merchandising and money probably the best only behind the toy story franchise but I am willing to bet that single move alone Cars could be the highest grossing Pixar film if you include all the merchandising money
Well, at least one casting change will have to be made... Not that big a deal, though, since he was criminally underused in the first movie.
Surprised at all the hate for The Incredibles, it's one of my favorites and still holds a 97% fresh rating on Rotten tomatoes http://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/incredibles/
I love The Incredibles. Best movie by Pixar behind Toy Story. I hate Cars, but my son loves it, so I'm sure we will see it.
I agree with Cars being the weakest. Something about the cars being so in animate I could really feel their emotions. I'm surprised as well about the hate for The Incredibles. I always like to pop that movie in from time to time.
Incredibles was. . . incredible!!! Rocket River Lucius: Honey? Honey: What? Lucius: Where's my super suit? Honey: What? Lucius: Where - is - my - super - suit? Honey: I, uh, put it away. [helicopter explodes outside] Lucius: *Where*? Honey: *Why* do you *need* to know? Lucius: I need it! [Lucius rummages through another room in his condo] Honey: Uh-uh! Don't you think about running off doing no derrin'-do. We've been planning this dinner for two months! Lucius: The public is in danger! Honey: My evening's in danger! Lucius: You tell me where my suit is, woman! We are talking about the greater good! Honey: 'Greater good?' I am your wife! I'm the greatest *good* you are ever gonna get!
I'd rather see a sequel to pretty much any other Pixar movie except Monsters, Inc (can't stand Billy Crystal's schtick). Cars was just blah. And Incredibles was great. Not only was it a great movie, it was a fantastic superhero movie. Maybe the best made.
My cousin works at Pixar, they've been working on this for awhile already... after The Bear and The Bow (or something like that)
