The storyline centers on mankind’s pursuit/questions dealing with death/immortality...

I've been eagerly anticipating this one. Aronofsky (pi & requiem for a dream) blows some fresh air into cinema.

Here is a excerpt from a write-up done by cnn

"Hugh Jackman plays three characters -- a 16th-century conquistador, a 21st-century scientist and an astronaut of the far future -- and Weisz plays his beloved each time. Jackman's character is searching for eternal life, whether as the conquistador looking for it, the scientist researching a substance that contains it or the astronaut pondering its meaning. (Eternal life can be awfully boring.)

However, Weisz's character is separated from Jackman's at each juncture: first by class and distance, as the conquistador's queen who sends him across the Atlantic; then by disease, as the scientist's dying, cancer-stricken wife; and then by spirit, as the astronaut's memory, for which he's traveling to the far reaches of space for a hoped-for reunion.

Binding the stories together, besides the performers, are the characters' names (variations on "Thomas" and "Isabel"), mythology (Mayan as well as Judeo-Christian) and a series of symbols, ranging from a sturdy tree (of life, naturally), to circles and color (particularly black and white)."

The 26th century astronaut is going to be interesting, especially the visuals that were used to simulate deep space...

I'm looking forward to this movie, and have been for awhile. I'm a big fan of Aranofsky, thank god for some originality coming out of Hollywood.

I'm pretty excited about this movie too. Pi and Requiem for a Dream were great. Very original so I'm expecting this one to be good to.

    Looks interesting indeed.

Getting mixed reviews right now. Some people hate it, some people say its the best film of the year. Sounds like a lot of "i don't get it and I'm frustrated so I'm going to say it sucked" type of reactions.

I watched it 2nite, and it was amazing.

The girl i watched it with was confused. It's not confusing, but u have to listen carefully to peace it together properly.

It puts a lot of things in perspective. Amazing performance by Hugh Jackman.

Amazing film. Really good, best most original stuff I've seen out of Hollywood in a while. The last great year of film for me was the 21 Grams/Mystic River season so I've been missing this.

Anybody who didn't like this is too dumb to understand it. Go watch an un-inspired cinematic turd like Casino Royale again.

I saw this movie for the first time last week and I haven't been able to get it out of my head since.

After ruminating for a few days I think I finally understood the theme behind the "past, present, future" timespans. Not sure though. I'm going to buy it tomorrow. What a beautiful, haunting, heartbreaking, lovely film. A complete masterpiece...the last 20 or 30 minutes of the movie really solidified it as one of the top 5 movies I've ever seen.

Oh and one more thing...HOLY **** SOUNDTRACK. you know anything Clint Mansell is going to be good (Requiem), but I cannot stop listening to it. I hear Mogwai contributed, that must be why... :]

This is crazy. I have been thinking constantly about this movie the last 2 days even though I saw it last year when it was released in theaters. I can't wait to see it again. Im sure every time I see it I will discover more and more secrets it has to offer. Glad you brought it up finals.

if memory serves me correctly, isn't this the same movie that brad pitt grew out his HUGE beard for a couple years ago? i think he ended up pulling out of it once he got the part of Achilles in Troy.

Yes, but actually the rumor was that Jennifer Aniston made him pull-out because she hated his beard. And then he got the part for Troy.

And then the movie sat in limbo for years, and none of the old principle cast returned.
