Star Trek Into Darkness NEW Trailer <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/mdgRx94W5ko" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
The trailer looks great and the movie will be a stunner. It does remind me how audiences have changed and moviemakers have shifted seismically to accommodate newer sensibilities. "Star Trek" retains a certain cerebral sense but not too much, and the special effects are now excellent. Someone decided to give these guys a budget. Gonna spend money? You better make money. James Bond films retain much of their former swagger but instead of silly gadgets we get more grounded action and better acting (see also Bourne, Jason). I do miss such things as "You Only Live Twice"'s scene with Bond having his pick of the litter among Japanese masseuses, but alas.... Looking forward to Into Darkness.

Very excited. Looks like we're going to see a serious body count. I'm leaning more towards John Harrison being John Harrison.....but (speculation) Spoiler is an augment trying to "free" his augment "family" which includes Khan. There's been whispers that Abrams was going to have the Klingons discover the Botany Bay in this timeframe, explaining his visit there. My other guess is that Starfleet secretly has been revitalizing other augment popsicles to serve as Black Ops agents (like Harrison). One frame in the trailer sure looks like a safehouse full of cryo-tubes.
J.J. Abrams grants Trekkie’s dying wish to see ‘Star Trek Into Darkness’ By Meriah Doty | Movie Talk – 17 hours ago What started out as one post on the behalf of a beloved friend turned into a full-blown Internet campaign that resulted in a call from J.J. Abrams himself and a very special screening of his upcoming film. Both a heart-wrenching and uplifting story, Abrams called the wife of a terminally ill man to confirm that he could set up a private screening of his forthcoming "Star Trek: Into Darkness." The man identified as Dan has been diagnosed with two forms of cancer in the past three years resulting in more than ten hospital visits and other related health problems, according to a post by his presumed friend who goes by the username ideeyut on Reddit. Dan is a huge Trekkie and overall movie buff according to his friend, and was disappointed when the much buzzed-about nine-minute "Into Darkness" preview didn't play ahead of an IMAX screening of "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey." Soon after, sadly, doctors gave Dan just weeks to live. That's when his friend sprang into action. After ideeyut's post went up on Reddit, invested readers took to Twitter and Facebook. Some blogs picked up the story and just a few days later Abrams responded. Dan and his wife have now seen a yet-to-be-finished version of "Into Darkness" and have responded via their friend's Reddit profile: "Hi everyone, it's Daniel's wife, we are of course sworn to secrecy, BUT we are officially allowed to say we saw it and we enjoyed it IMMENSELY as a film and as a gesture." She went on to thank Abrams and the Internet community for bring this "heartwarming gift" into Dan's life, also noting, "...We were so touched when [Abrams] was concerned that we wouldn't 100% enjoy the screening as it's still being worked on....... Be assured we enjoyed it 110%!" "Star Trek Into Darkness" opens May 17, 2013. http://movies.yahoo.com/blogs/movie-talk/j-j-abrams-grants-trekkie-dying-wish-see-000643743.html
Guy passed away. Cool he got to see it before he went. I hope he enjoyed it... it would be a bummer if it sucked. http://www.eonline.com/news/376556/...o-got-his-last-wish-to-see-into-darkness-dies
Thank God JJ Abrams took on Star Trek. Sounds like he is a great guy, too! Too bad he wouldn't go near the new Star Wars film.
If you have any of the Blu-Rays of Super 8 or the first Star Trek, watch the director's comments, it is awesome to get a behind-the-scenes view of the way they do things, so often flying by the seat of their pants, which just seems really fun and creative.
And he's a Star Wars guy at heart! He had great presence of mind that it wouldn't be right to straddle both franchises. Personally, I think his creativity and talents better fit Star Trek anyway. Star Wars fans wouldn't go for a radical departure away from the established film's iconic style. That franchise somewhat has to stay inside the box, which means you don't get much out of Abrams. Matthew Vaughn, if that happens, would be a good choice.
For those that didn't know: Paramount launched a free mobile Star Trek app (Apple and Android platforms) yesterday. If you install and open it, you will have the option of purchasing advance IMAX/3D tickets for the film (Wed. May 15th, most showings at 8pm). I'm not clear if they have officially bumped the release up by two days or if these are otherwise available to the public, but they are claiming that these will allow you to be the "first" to see the movie. The app uses GPS to list nearby theaters and showtimes, and the purchase mechanism is via Fandango. I grabbed 4 tickets, but I want to be sure that everyone is clear that this is more of an advance purchase opportunity than it is a promotional sneak preview (like the Avengers did).
