I don't watch anything nowadays, but cartoon, comic book and literary creatures aren't going anywhere; once they got multiplexes in the third world and movie studios went public, it was hard to say no to an automatic $300 - 400 million every single year. Every single movie that we grew up reveling as the greatest or most popular for a half century is repeatedly dwarfed by these commercially; often times even after adjusting for inflation. Baby boomers spent the '80s and '90s reminiscing about Vietnam and the '50s (particularly through time travel films and television shows); but from generation X onward, pop culture has more of an historical significance than political events; so franchises will keep being remade to tap into that nostalgia.
Looks like great fun. On a slightly sexist but can't-help-myself side note, if Brie Larson were to be offered as a sacrifice, as Jessica Lange was? I was 7 years old when the bad King Kong remake came out. I still remember the awesome shots of Jessica in her sacrificial garb. Practically invented side-boob. In fact, not too too long ago, the crap movie was on TV, and I happened to click onto it when Jessica was about to be attacked by the giant snake. I kept it on there for just a minute or two but the network cut the split-second of the great side-boob shot. THAT'S how I know I wasn't alone in my appreciation of a bad movie. Even the people at AMC were like, "Whoops, nope." In any case, this movie looks defined fun.
Kong is a lot bigger, but if he's gonna throw hands with Godzilla he's really gonna have to add some reach. I love these monster movies, so sign me up.
Scoring much better than I thought it would so far. I'm almost ready to say that hollywood has figured out how to make anything at least entertaining these days. Been on a roll. Credit to the training these movie makers are getting. I mean really, this movie should have been crushed under it's own weight. What more could u do with it. Yet it seems to have delivered.
I saw this last night. It was freaking AWESOME. 9/10 I did not realize from the trailers that it is set in '73, so it's essentially a Vietnam flick, sort of, but set on mysterious island of course, and there was a really good mixture of 'good, neutral and evil' type monsters, and of course Kong is the biggest and baddest of them all. Great cast, and you might even cry at the end (but I am not telling why). If you like big monster movies, you won't find anything better than this. I liked it way better than Godzilla or Pacific Rim (although those are both pretty good). Highly recommended!
You had me a Vietnam flick. I love that kind of setting whether it's in horror or action. I'll see this soon!
I really liked the one from 2005. It took place during the depression era. I hope he doesn't run around NYC again.
