The 'Super 8' Viral Campaign Explodes Online: Have You Seen This Boy? Tuesday, May 11, 2010 By: MrDisgusting It's time to pick a side. You're either going to sit back and enjoy the viral campaign for Super 8, or literally go insane reading about it. J.J. Abrams showed us what he's all about when he virally promoted his giant monster movie Cloverfield, only this time Steven Spielberg and his Amblin Entertainment are joining the party. With the proper teaser arriving online this morning, the viral campaign was put into full effect. How so? Not one, but TWO "things" were discovered hiding within. Read about it below. Have you seen this boy? Spoiler The teaser trailer carried more than an epic train crash sequence. Towards the title card, when the footage drops into the lens, two of the frames display an image of a little boy. Who is this boy and why is he important? Who knows. But the fact that he was included in this teaser means something. I'm sure more will come soon. But that's not all... This Super 8 Fansite discovered words hiding wihin the trailer. "Scariest Thing I Ever Saw" "And of course the first thing we’re gonna do is punch that into a web browser and get www.scariestthingieversaw.com which seems to have been registered a little over a week after the super8-movie.com website was, and by the same registration company," the site writes. But there's more. The website leads to some new discoveries. What exactly. "Stop posting publicly. I can answer your questions. I have proof," writes an unknown assailant. But it continues and you can read all about it by clicking here. New trailer looks like Goonies 2: Cloverfield. I like both movies so I'm all for it.
Anyone seen this yet? Reviews saying it brings back the classic Spielberg style. I'll probably see it tomorrow
Saw this in IMAX yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it. Definitely had an old-school charm to it, with just the right mix of humor, action, and emotion. They also did a superb job of casting talented young actors. It felt a lot like a mash up of E.T., Cloverfield, and Goonies. Definitely recommended, and I suggest you see it in IMAX if for no other reason than the enhanced audio. There were a number of rib-rattling moments that really added to the experience.
Definitely a movie made for the kids who grew up in the 80's.... Is there any originality in the movie or more of a homage to Speilberg in such???
There's no sex, and only a smattering of explicit language. There is violence, but it's usually in quick cuts and much of it is simply implied. I imagine a 10 year old may not fully grasp the depth of the relationships between the characters, but I can't see how they wouldn't still enjoy the film.
Well, that can be said for just about any movie ever made. But it does have a general rating of 83% on rottentomatoes, and more impressively, it's also at 83% among top critics (more often than not there's a significant drop off). Some of the biggest names in film criticism (Richard Roeper, Peter Travers, Roger Ebert, Michael Phillips, and Roger Moore) all liked it.
Hadn't looked at RT yet, just read a few early reviews I came across, will probably check it out this weekend.
Watched it last night, loved it. Very old school style film. Actual character development. I could hear yawns like the kids all around were bored because i'm sure all they care about is:
This is a movie that is shamelessly trying to pay homage to the classic 80s flicks. I thought it was pretty good at doing that. There are clever moments to it, but you really have to let all of the contrivances go to really enjoy the film. Another words, I thought Signs was a far better, more convincing film for a Spielberg homage, because there is true magic in that film. I think you'll like it though.
