During an interview for "Riddick" with The Hollywood Reporter, Diesel stated he was originally approached to star in a new IP for Marvel Studios that might begin Phase Three, but the talks changed to have him voice Groot instead. "I guess after they watched 'Iron Giant' or whatever, they came up with this idea of taking kind of the strangest Marvel character that's ever hit film, and thought what I could do with that, with motion capture and with my voice," Diesel said. "That's what they presented. I thought it was a really great idea on behalf of Marvel, and now it's just up to my reps to allow that to happen." link
Bradley Cooper cast as Rocket Raccoon in Marvel's 'Guardians of the Galaxy' http://www.nydailynews.com/entertai...joins-guardians-galaxy-cast-article-1.1442047
Chris Pratt: Rocket Raccoon ‘Probably the Best Character’ in ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt doesn’t think his character Peter Quill is the best one in the upcoming Marvel space adventure. No, the Parks and Recreation actor bestows that honor on Rocket Raccoon. “It’s a great character. It’s probably the best character in the movie,” Pratt told Access Hollywood, “just because it’s not what you would expect.” “You think it’s a cartoon character, but it’s not, it’s a very real creature,” he said. “[Rocket Raccoon has been] tortured his whole life and no one else likes him, so he’s lonely and he’s angry and it’s like, [there are] all these elements [to the character]. You sort of forget about that, you wouldn’t think about, [and] hopefully will come to life. I think it will and that’s why they hired a really good actor to do the role.” Bradley Cooper is the man voicing Rocket, as confirmed by Marvel Studios after rumors connected the Hangover star to the role. “I could not be more excited that Bradley Cooper is voicing Rocket Raccoon,” Pratt said. We’ll see that excitement for ourselves when director James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy arrives Aug. 1, 2014.
That reminds me. If anyone here is into the actual comics absolutely check out the (current) Marvel Now! Run of Guardians of the Galaxy (the one where Iron Man is on the team). I thought I was the only one reading it, and apparently it's selling out everywhere. It's quite awesome. As for Rocket Raccoon being the best character...****ing duhhhhh.

I'm not a fan of comic book movies because they're too short!!! And it takes to long for production to finish. That's why I like it to turn into a series, whether animation or series long show. Or just read the comic books.

i was kinda of the opposite, i thought marvel would deliver again, looks like i'm wrong but my kids might enjoy it so it's possible i'll see it anyway
This really isn't a superhero movie. Just a scifi space flick which I'm all about. I liked the montage at the end of the trailer but none of the jokes in the trailer I thought were that funny. The only good one was the middle finger but that was distracted by the blur. We'll see. I like Pratt a lot.
I think Marvel does a good job with origin movies. Then they go through the motions with the sequel/cash grab. I also think the actors start caring less and less with each subsequent movie. These movies launch their careers and they get bored with the role (except Hugh Jackman). So yeah, this one will probably be good along with Doctor Strange and even Ant Man. Captain America 2 is the only one with the potential to be better than its origin film at this point.
