A24 has premiered the first trailer for the highly anticipated “Civil War,” the new action film from acclaimed “Ex Machina” and “Annihilation” writer/director Alex Garland. The story takes place in the United States in the not-so-distant future and has been dubbed a combination road movie, satirical war film and elevated shooter. From the trailer, it begins when 19 states of the United States have seceded from the union and now is made of factions including the ‘Florida Alliance’ and the ‘Western Forces’ which sees California and Texas on the same side. The rest of the trailer follows what looks like a family, including Kirsten Dunst as a warzone photographer, making their way across a country gone mad. The cast includes Wagner Moura, Stephen McKinley Henderson, Cailee Spaeny, Karl Glusman, Sonoya Mizuno, Jonica T. Gibbs, and Jess Matney. Gregory Goodman, Andrew Macdonald, and Allon Reich will produce for A24 and DNA Films. The film is targeting a Spring 2024 release and will be available in IMAX. This will mark Garland’s fourth officially directed feature, the third being the quirky horror film “Men”. There's going to be a lot of Texans pissed off at the notion that if there was a civil war we (Texas) would be allied with California.
i dunno how i feel about being on the same side with hollywood. which side is cap on? i'm not about that iron man lyfe.
I’m assuming Texas is the war front for the Western States and the Florida Alliance is a majority of the Deep South states. I’m more interested in the war part of this movie. Other than logistics the Western States should win this war. The key is keeping the Permian basin going for fuel. And hey! Todd is back! I guess ya’ll haven’t been to Austin lately.
Well, even if all the Austin hippies love the idea, the remaining 28 million Texans might not so much.
Yeah, idealistically it’s a stretch for Texans to side with west coast types. OTOH, one of my most conservative friends is from Cali, so… shrug?
Yeah, there are definitely pockets of Cali that lean far right. I'll be interested to see if the show makes much of an effort to explain how two (overall) pretty disparate political states would ally in a civil war. But in general the show looks pretty incredible from the trailer and the pedigree of those involved is pretty immaculate, so I'll definitely watch.
Yeah, honestly no interest. Or negative interest. Just like that stupid upcoming movie about the last surviving humans fighting it out on the ISS while Earth is a radioactive wasteland. No thanks, idiots. Should be a very wide happy medium somewhere between Forrest Gump and crap like this. EDIT: Maybe the time is right for a depressing-as-possible parody of depressing, gritty movies.
