Take it for what it's worth - a poster on a Longhorn fansite wrote that he attended some event that John McClain spoke at today and that McClain said that the signing of Schobel could come as soon as (earlier) today. Anyone have anything remotely resembling legit news as to this?
I am not counting on it. Texans have probably moved on and I don't blame them. He is 33 years old and showed no sign than he wants to play football again. Just a lot of reports out there. I have been impressed with Jesse Nading so far and I think once Adewale Ogunleye gets back in football shape and learns to playbook, he could give this team a solid 10-15 snaps a game.
WOW, this would be a shocker. Schobel would help because with our young secondary we need to put constant pressure on the QBs and with Williams, Schobel, Ogunleye, Smith and Okoye we could do that.
Hmm. There is another guy who is on the Texans MB claiming to be "in the know" saying something could happen Monday or Tuesday after the Cowboys game. http://boards.houstontexans.com/showthread.php?p=327929 Believe it when I see it though.
If John McClain said it WOULD happen. That most assuredly means it will NOT happen. Whatever that guy reports is wrong 90% of the time.
Some of my TCU friends in the know (ex-athletes) say it's basically a done deal with Schobel signing with the Texans....he is getting himself in shape. I hope they are right!
Well the only reason I posted this is because McClain has been saying every day until now (if this is true) there is no way the Texans will sign him. Sooooo.....
Haha I love how the Texans use him to throw smoke screens around draft time. I wonder if he realizes he's been getting played for years.
I'm still all for it. Wonder if it means Ogunleye and Denny haven't been coming along well at practice. I was hoping they'd be ready enough to work into the rotation this week. Can't let Romo be comfortable when he's got 6-6 Witten, Austin, and Bryant out there against our secondary. Evan
We're already into week 3, if this guy was serious about wanting to take some time off from football he has got to be a fat slob by football standards by now. Even if we did sign him today, it would realistically probably take him about 2 weeks MINIMUM just to get into somewhat game shape. During those two weeks, yea he could probably play a couple plays a game but at this point is it really worth it? You can't afford to take reps away during the week from guys that are more ready to play conditionally like A.O. and Denney because they still need to be caught up to speed too. If get we him, I'm happy, if we don't, its whatever
Smith is definately playing beyond decent. He's picked up where he left off last season and he's constantly getting into the backfield. I've been impressed with our D-line as a whole
He is great at playing the run and has definitely rushed the passer better this season so far. My biggest problem with smith is that he tends to get a lot of dumbass penalties. He seemed to be prone to them last year and that one on OT last week was huge.
Would be nice to a line of Mario - Amobi - Smith - Schobel. If Smith can continue to hold up against the run, that would be a very decent D-line.
