I was reading the other thread about some guy thinking about joining the Army, and I wanted to know which would be the toughest, physically and mentally, to join. Someone said you have to be at your peak, physically, to embark in the OCS , or something like that.

( Dont include the navy seals)

    Thanks...

Well I guess I'm a little biased since my best friend is a Marine Officer so I'd say Officer Candidate School would be the toughest mentally and physically. You said no Navy Seals, but man, they're probably the toughest because they're the least numbered elites. And I've had friends in the Air Force Academy. They hated these showers lines where you get a freezing cold one, then a scolding hot one, then a freezing cold one, etc. That sounds crazy, but I've heard so much more crazy stuff about the OCS program in the Marines.

If you leave out the obvious elite forces that are demanding on every level, I'd have to say the most demanding branch of the service overall would be the Marines.

and even then, according to a couple of good friends that are ex-Marines, it isnt nearly as bad as it used to be.

I've gone through Marine Corp OCS and I didn't think that it was that bad if you are in decent shape. You have to be able to run and climb. The guys that got most of the abuse from the drill instructors were the ones that fell out of the runs and marches or the ones that could not climb the wall or rope.

Cool, so like you're an officer now? How did you like your time in the Marines?

No. They had a program where you go 6 weeks after your freshman year and another 6 weeks after your junior year. I went for the first session but had better things to do after my junior year. ;) Overall, it was a good experience.

You never stop being a Marine. My grandpa would still harass the younger Marines when he'd go in for a haircut at Ellington.
