To date it is not already have traded or locked in a deal for Asik....somebody is better than nobody playing and like Mchal stated, he nor smith have really played all year. We need bodies on the court...either you play him or trade this "high asset" .I think morey waited too long and although I think he will get something of use for the rockets, that trade would be trumped with what he could have gotten early.
Goran Dragic. Assuming that there was indeed a realistic chance for us to have resigned him, let him go left a hole at the position that still needs to be addressed. Bev and Lin are good players but neither would be a starting point guard for a true contender. Both have serious deficiencies that are well demonstrated by their inconsistencies. Dragic blew up here and in Phoenix now. Dynamic player with good handles with a quality that is most needed in a starting pg: consistency. Indeed, when he was playing for the Rockets, Dragic was well liked by the vast majority of Rockets. Like many of you, I was despondent when he chose to sign with the Suns. Damn....
You do realize that getting the superstars is the hardest part of the job for a GM, right? Especially for a medium market like Houston. Morey's specialty is getting solid role players out of nowhere. If that's our problem right now, we have the right man for the job. It requires a gutting to get assets to acquire the superstars, so people really need to get over letting Dragic go. As for choosing McHale, we got him to recruit Dwight Howard to Houston. Mission accomplished. Now we need a real coach and I'm fully confident Morey will find one in the offseason.
His timing on trades is kinda off. Sometimes he's too quick to trade players (Goran, Lee, Morris//PPat). Sometimes he holds on to players too long (like Asik and Ronnie Brewer). As a result, other teams can take our Viper stars and turn them into serviceable players like Goudelock and Johnson. Man, just cut Brewer and sign a Viper on the team. wth are you waiting for--the team to hit rock-bottom?
Problem is I don't think Howard and Harden are the stars who can overcome teams like OKC, LAC, MEM etc in the West. What more IND and MIA.
A GM has to make mistakes, he has done some mistakes but he made remarkable moves and turned lottery team to a semi-contending team with two superstars in 2 years, so I think he is a solid GM
....right. Damn. I would have bought Goran a second Dynex if that was the hold-up. Cheaper than League Pass.
But he ended up giving an inexperienced Jeremy Lin virtually the same amount as Goran signed with PHX for, though shorter by a year (bec of Goran's player option in his 4th year). Goran >>> Lin + Bev + AB
record wise yes but morey predicted 5 extra wins this year just from our team growing together, I was being sarcastic I got you, but this year we can't judge this season until playoffs are over
^This, we threw Dragon away. Lowry is the one we used, Lin is basically gogi's replacement and I think at the time getting Lin helped Morey save face.
Not acquiring James Durant Terry Bryant Johnson when we had the chance. Seriously, this guy is garbage every other game but somehow someway lights the f*** out of the Rockets.
This. DH is an all star but can't be counted on when it matters. Any center with length could give him fits.
Straight from wiki, "Morey is in his seventh season as the General Manager of the Houston Rockets. The team has made the playoffs three times." I don't see how that translates to greatest GM ever.
I think the real question is this THE Championship season, or maybe next? We have a foundation and work to do. Certainly headed in right direction. Is McHale the best coach? Well he was the best to get Dwight to sign. Let's go from there.
