idk how to best quantify the severity of the mistakes... for example, Royce was a total dud who was nothing but a headache and a distraction... so I'd say he was a worse mistake than wasting a midrange first rd pick (worse than say drafting a European who never coms over for example...) now McHale, otoh.... if his coaching abilities don't improve greatly, then we're going to have wasted a whole season.... Goran... players come, players go.... everybody complained about the Gay/Battier trade when Gay started to pop, but now most don't even want him, period.....
Anyway, not auctioning off Omer Asik off to the highest bidder as quickly as possible after signing Dwight Howard goes down as a big mistake if the Feb 20 trade deadline comes and goes and Asik is still on the roster. Although, again, if this is your biggest mistake, you're a hell of a GM. Some teams make mistakes on a regular basis. Pretty much every single move the Lakers make under Jim Buss is a mistake.
He's made plenty of mistakes. But the biggest mistake was running off Coach Adelman for Mchale. No way you downgrade coach's just so you can control the team as GM. Of course he won't talk about this
Thinking Dwight is a superstar. Dwight may be the best center in the league, but that doesn't mean he's a superstar. Dwight is not a player you build an offense around. Dwight is not a player you can go to in the last minute of a game for a basket, because he can't make a free throw when fouled. The Rockets could have kept Asik at center and acquired two really good players for what we pay Dwight. After pursuing Dwight for years, Morey will never admit that getting Dwight was a mistake. At this point Morey can only hope to acquire another superstar since Howard and Harden can't get the job done. The Rockets shouldn't need another star player if Dwight is a true superstar.
The trade for Pau Gasol & plan to sign NeNe to pair up with him, that fortunately got vetoed by Stern.
Most recent ones 1. was not trading asik for bass/lee/1st round pick, this team is needs a solid big that can set screens, and a back up 3&d guy he had it right there and a 1st round bonus, every team we face makes us run through picks but we set none! 2. Not signing James Johnson and waving brewer 3. Signing Howard this summer is still yet to be determined if that was a good move depending on what happens in the playoffs.
putting Dwright, Harden and Lin together. any single one of these moves are good ones, but combining a big only wanna post up and setting sloppy screens occasionally and 2 attacking guards need PNR all the time?
Howard sets the weakest screens if he even sets them, Howard is not going any where so morey needs to get a big pf that wants to sets screens for high pick & rolls.
I heard that MOFs are debating who is THE BEST ... DM the GM or DM the Coach or DM the point guard or DM the Shooting guard .... apparently he can manage, coach, play all 5 positions. Oh, and he should replace Bill,Clyde and Bull for broadcasting too. Personally, I feel sorry for us(Rockets only fan).... these MOFs hijacked our team and made a prophet out of a mediocre. sigh.
OK, so refresh my memory here — Wasn't the reason for not signing Goran the fact that Morey was not willing to match the player option PDX had offered? The money was basically the same as Lin's, IIRC. How, again, would that have impacted our flexibility to sign Dwight?
Definitely Goran Dragic. Gutting that team like there was no tomorrow. Now we have two stars but no one else to support them. We have to find them role players all over again. Harden and Howard are not enough and I don't think adding a third star is the answer. No defense and no offense vs. good teams.
