I didn't think there would be anyone, anywhere who would argue they're more prestigious than the yankees....
Depends on your measuring stick. The Lakers have more overall championships and conference titles/pennants since 1950 than the Yankees. They've also had significantly more success since 2000 (five titles) than New York (two). Of course New York has more overall titles, because the franchise dates back further. But since 1950, when both franchises have been around, it's slight edge LA. In this century, it's big edge LA. So it depends how you define prestige. Not that any of this has to do with the thread, of course, so I digress.
Teams who generally deal with these big franchises dont often come out with the best deal. Thats why they end up the best franchises. Lakers are probably think of flipping the Rockets first round pick for Dwight Howard or someone else on top of dumping an older Gasol on the Rockets while losing that young pick, Dragic a solid backup, and Scola near Gasols level of play. No thanks to both scenarios.
Prestige is not earned by getting these franchises leftovers. Its earned by somehow getting over on them in this deal or having this deal set up another. So NO THANKS! That time has passed when the ability to sign Nene along with Gasol passed or whatever Morey had planned with this deal. Unless he has another plan down the road we dont know about involving Gasol.
Ive come to the conclusion that Gasol isnt a guy I'd want - Not based upon his skills but nore because of his age. He and Scola are both over 30 and while an upgrade over Scola , the window of opportunity with Gasol just isnt worth what it would cost to get him ..... Unless its a straight up swap , I say forget it.
Or they just have former players become GMs of other franchises and make lopsided deals in their favor...
the yankees also play in a competition, that despite having no salary cap is infinitely more competitive (only 20 teams have won a title in the last 30 years...).
