OP, you are reading too much into all the recent buzz about 'what's wrong with Gasol, doesn't fit with Bynum, etc.' The last 4 years, 3 finals appearances, and 2 championships show Gasol can fit just fine with Bynum. The problem is not those 2 players, it's freaking Mike Brown. A brilliant defensive mind, but my god that guy doesn't know a lick about how to run an offense. It's basically Lebron-era Cavs 2.0 with Kobe (far worse and less willing passer) down there.
Yes, the defense would be ridiculous. I really do think we underestimate Martin's positive effect on this team though. I would much rather trade Dragic and have Flynn back up Lowry. He has a lot to prove, yes, but I know the kid can play.
interesting chad for just commented on this in his chat...said if lakers dont get howard they could look to move gasol and that the rockets want him bad enough to give several players.
Personally, I dont think Gasol is a 10M/yr improvement over Scola... But Scola/Dragic/Thabeet for Gasol + a couple of their scrubs (jus to open roster spots) works salarywise... Gives the Lakers help at point and a bu for Bynum, plus some flex room capwise for next season (whether or not they chose to resign Thabust or Dragic) to help go after D12.... plus DM will throws in a first round pick... either the Knick pick or ours (if we retain it) - whichever is lower...
Where would a Gasol trade leave Dalembert? He is playing his rear off; such rumors aren't very motivating.
/\/\/\/\/\/\ This scenerio however it plays out is the best option if we were considering getting Pau G.....I think a lineup of: K.Low K.Mart Parsons Pau G. Dalembeer Looks good to me......!! "IT IS WRITTEN"
Playing hypothetically...Lakers wanna dump salary (pau/MWP) to get d12 in offseason.... Pau MWP +2 scrubs for scola Dragic Flynn Thabust TWill works on the trade machine.... and gives Lakers enough expiring contracts (and savings from pau to Scola) to sign D12, plus DM throws in a 1st rounder...
Lakers need to dump Mike Brown. No way he will be successfull there or any NBA team. If they are blind to that, they may dump Pau...and we should not offer anywhere near what we did in the first go around.
Scola was effective with Yao Ming, a post up player like Bynum. Plus he can knock down that mid range jumper better than Gasol.
If I'm not mistaken, Dragic is going to be a free agent this next offseason and he will most likely leave for some other team that will pay him to be their starting PG. Basically, if this trade scenario were to happen we will be losing a PG who's most likely going to walk anyways and a PF, who despite the fact is a great player on the offensive side, doesn't play defense or rebound at a good clip and isn't someone who will change shots in the paint for a proven all-star and legit 7 footer
Sigh. By this logic, we should never try to trade for a player from a better team. Gasol has been in LA four years, playing for arguably the most prestigious organization in sports. In those four years, he's won two NBA titles, three Western Conference titles, and plays alongside one of the greatest players of all-time. All in an enormous market with tons of Spanish culture. Why in the world would he want to leave? Of course Gasol wouldn't have been thrilled with a trade here. The point is that unlike Pippen, he's a professional and would have dealt with the situation and moved on. (By the way, Pippen is actually a horrible example because he chose as a free agent to come to Houston. He wasn't forced. He then became unhappy afterward based on other factors. Apples and oranges.) Anyway, bottom line: if we go after Gasol or any other star via trade, some of you need thicker skin. Houston isn't an NBA mecca right now, and the initial, knee-jerk reaction from a player might not be 100% positive. Deal with it. Most of them are professionals, will go out and give their best effort and move on. It's not a big deal at all.
See this is what Stern screwing us over has done now. Everyone thinks we're ready to be their sucker and gut half our team just for their mediocre, declining sub-superstars. No leverage at all. Ugh.
Lakers will NOT trade Gasol to Rockets without Lowry as part of the deal . . . and as far as I am concerned and I would hope Morey as well . . Gasol is not enough for us to trade a budding 25 Year Old All star PG Don't get me wrong . . . 3 weeks ago - I may have felt differently - But seeing Lowry blossom and watching Dalembert play at an Elite "defensive" level - I am no longer interested in making this deal with Lowry as a part of the package !!!
I think he wants to play in the post more, but he certainly could play some center. I don't think he'd mind playing alongside Dalembert, who's sorta a lunch pail guy.
HAHAHA WHAT AN IDIOT I didnt read the OP's topic because i didnt want to lose IQ Points, and people call me an idiot. Why would we want to trade for a 31 year old washed up All-Star with his salary. The thought a Rockets Fan wants to trade Kyle Lowry at all, should be reason enough to question his basketball knowledge(sigh) FYI Morey's love for Euro's will be his own undoing(See Toronto Raptors)
