Being scrutinized is a part of Morey's job. He is at a public venue where everyone is tweeting stuff all day. He needs to be aware of how his statements can be interpreted.

There is enough talent on this roster to be less Harden dependent. Morey's biggets mistake, even ahead of priorizing flexibility over present is to sustain Kevin McHale.

    To be objective...
Had he said, "without Harden we are - a star that might be on a downward spiral due to injuries, a few better than average role players (Ariza/Brewer..), a few guys that might further develop to the next level (DMo/TJ..) and some scrubs (Dorsey...)... and be stuck on the treadmill of mediocrity, heading for another 14-15th pick..." would he be wrong?
To say we'd be 'nowhere', may be candy coating it... ;) lol

"Nothing" might be too strong a word. "Bad" would suffice.

He hasn't played all that much this season and when he has, it hasn't been great.

I don't think by saying what he said he is admitting the team has little talent outside of Harden. It's an admission that we don't have even a homeless mans duplication on the roster of the type of talents Harden brings to the table.

No one else can truly create like he does and no one any other team would even remotely think about doubling.

This thread needs to be locked for the misleading title.

When Morey says we would be nowhere, what he means is we would definitely NOT be a top 3 seed in one of the most difficult confrences in NBA history.

Sorry that forums poster Carl Herrera can't handle this.

Even though I agree with what he said, there would be a lot better ways to say this same thing.

"We have really good players, but Harden is the one piece that holds everything together"

"Harden is our main scorer and distributor. He does so many great things for our team."

"Without Harden, everyone else's job on our team would be much tougher. He makes the game easier for everyone"

"Harden has been playing so well for us. It is hard to imagine what the season would be like without him"

Something like that? Something that would talk up Harden without sounding like you are talking down everyone else?

¿? Howard receives double teams sometimes, we've seen it last season and even this one.

He doesn't say "If we didn't have Harden we would be the worst team in the league" He says we would be "nowhere"...my interpretation is nowhere close to a championship. If you have a good team but struggle to make the playoffs then you might be considered going "nowhere". I would consider Phoenix to be "nowhere"

Does he ?! He's only played in 32 games , just over half. The teams record with & without him is not much different.

That's not to state that I think they are better without Howard , just that he's been a non-factor in general when it comes to the bottom line on the season.

It's more of an endorsement for Harden over Curry as the MVP considering the circumstances. Curry has a much better team around him & Harden has pretty much put this team on his back and carried them all season without the teams second best player on the court for 26 games.
Take Thompson off the team for 26 games and that team is nowhere close to where they are now.

I guess that's true, but I just view it differently. The way teams double Harden throws their defensive scheme off more than with Howard. Howard gets it inside and players that are already close just kind of collapse, with Harden they are sending a guy way off his man to blanket Harden and once the ball moves there is a lot more scrambling necessary by the defense to recover. When teams double Harden it generally leads to an open shot somewhere. When Howard gets doubled the ball usually doesn't move and he turns it over a lot.

The point about Dwight is, Morey was taking his absence into consideration. He wasn't saying, if everyone was healthy, we'd still be nothing without Harden. A lot of teams would be nowhere without their two best guys, so no, he's not slamming anyone.

"If Harden wasn't on the team? We would be no where. Like being a gynecologist with no job and no dates, we wouldn't get to the hole."
