Morey refers to Beverley as starter, Gordon as 'supersub'

Ikr. It's actually pretty annoying.

 

Then say that MDA should give the interviews because he's better at it and/or gives better information instead of saying Morey should let the coach coach. Morey yapping to media instead of MDA is giving more time for the coach the coach.

 

This was kinda obvious from the beginning, can't believe so many people fought me on it in the Gordon as a starter thread.

 

Morey can yap all he wants about GM stuff, player scouting, analytics of player scouting, trades, drafts, what's going on at the Sloan Convention, his opinion of last night's game, his take on Hack a Shaq rules, making up excuses, reciting irrelevant historical facts, ping pong, his take on Tamarie for President, the pros and cons of being a gynecologist, etc.

Just try not to mess with the Coach's team chemistry building, by calling players assets and saying who should start and be a sub, etc.

It's about Boundaries.

What's the big issue with that?
a) as the roster is currently constructed it only makes sense to have Beverly as the starter.

b) Morey is not the only GM who said who would start in an interview. It doesn't mean he's the one who is calling the shots. It doesn't mean he wants to play the coach. It just means he has a functional relationship with the coaching staff.

c) Just because this is the plan right now doesn't mean squat. Trades can happen, and rotations are almost always determined during training camp when the coaches check what lineups work better.

 

Who called his comment a big issue? We are just chatting here.

The big issue is we should be finally trying to build an organizational structure around team chemistry. Morey is not good at it. Support the coach by saying, "That's a good question. I look forward to seeing how Coach decides on a rotation moving forward. He's known for his position-less creativity. His plan is to start now, and have a successful camp trying different lineups to both start the game and roll-out different looks for different scenarios and matchups."

That would be a fresh change in Morey's approach to players and coaches.
