Morey has unfinished business here in a Houston. He can't jump ship until he's won a championship with the Rockets.
The threat of him leaving might be real, especially if we flame out in the playoffs. If you wanted to produce musicals, would you be better off living in Houston or LA?
I think Jerry West is under contract with the Clippers as an adviser. Jerry West Earning $4M-$5M Per Year With Clippers Dec 5, 2017 2:52 PM The Los Angeles Clippers are paying Jerry West an annual salary of $4 million to $5 million per year as a consultant. West previously had a similar role with the Warriors while drawing one of the NBA's highest salaries for an executive. West was last general manager of a team with the Grizzlies. The Clippers also added Michael Winger, Trent Redden and Mark Hughes to the front office in the offseason. --------------------------------------------------------------------
I didn't read the replies to this thread so somebody may have touched on this already... But this Twitter user is a known liar.
http://bbs.clutchfans.net/index.php?threads/fire-morey.211431/ This guy might not see it as a bad idea. Right, @TheRealist137
Why would Daryl go this far only to not bring home the coveted championship? That would be a fruition the future he created. Analytics would not be galvanized if he just left. Then start another rebuilding process around a player unwilling to give up his ego and risk being fired by Lebron AND have to have a coach buy into the system: if you can find one that’s willing. That’s a lot of groundwork he’ll have to do to even get the lakers out of the lottery.
Sure, if he's willing to give up the rest of the money he's owed in that contract. Another reason he might be tempted: The team's new owner has been revealed to be more money-wary than the previous owner, and that restricted Morey from making the in-season moves he probably would have liked to make. That, in turn, might make us less competitive in the playoffs this year.
I honestly think Daryl has been pretty loyal to us. I just cant think that after all that he's said that he would want to leave. But you never know
Really, this isnt even a question... I'd be shocked if Jerry West doesnt make his return to the Lakers... A) West is a great guy to have and B) LA always loves to fall back to guys with past success in the city (Magic to HC, Magic to head guy, Luke Walton, Re-hire of Gruden by Raiders...) I wouldnt be surprised if they tried to bring Riley back...
There's some weird blood between West and the Lakers now. Not necessarily BAD, but funky. Back when West was GM, he hired Phil Jackson as coach, then the two of them butted heads repeatedly until West finally had enough and took off for Memphis. Jackson's girlfriend/fiancee at the time was Jeanie Buss, who I'm sure got an earful from Phil about Jerry when **** went down. This quote from 2017 says the relationship isn't bad, but West doesn't agree with Jeanie's vision of what the team needs to do (which is the same reason Magic said he's quitting): West is with a different LA team now, one with a good coach, a deep-pocketed owner, and a horrible track record as a doomed team that might never win a title. Getting a first-ever Larry O'Brien trophy for a 50-year-old franchise would be a MUCH bigger feather in West's cap than getting a 17th trophy for the Lakers.
