@HoustonRockets #Rockets GM @dmorey will join the @jimrome Show at 12:30pm CT on @SportsRadio610 http://player.play.it/player/player.html?v=4.10.2&id=63&onestat=kilt-am
Jim Rome has had his fair share of team GMs and front office execs/coaches on his show. Morey only feels overexposed in this bbs because we are all over on whatever he says.
Yeah, I wonder about that. Considering the Rockets haven't had a ton of success since the mid-90s, its strange that he's one of the most famous NBA GMs. In the media when they talk about the Rockets moves, they mention Morey like he's a house-hold name. He does his annual Analytics conference, which is sponsored by ESPN now. Simmons mentions him a lot because they are friends. And he had some articles written about him early on that got his name out there. I think the stats stuff is becoming a bigger deal, and ESPN seems fully behind it, and that's making him a more popular figure.
When I read this, the first GM that came to mind was Isiah Thomas... back when he bought the CBA. Then I realized just how long I've stopped listening to Rome.
Jim Rome doesnt follow very many people on Twitter, but he does follow DMorey http://twitter.com/jimrome
I get a sense that the organization feels it needs to do this to get back on the national scene. No scheduled national games last year probably bothered them more than they let on..... Either way, it just seems strange that he is on so many shows, so often.... DD
Not only does morey spread the word of red glory to western media, but he also gets the people of red nation involved. He is a hands on statesman. For sure the interview will be epic. DM, love that guy.
I see 4 factors for this: - He's pretty good at it. He's clear, concise, and entertaining. Doesn't really BS either, which is refreshing. - The stats aspect is different and a big draw - He's in to the twitter thing. - RA doesn't do it. Teams always have a weekly coaches show, but RA doesn't. He doesn't really do anything other then post game press conferences and whatever tv requires. So instead, Morey is the face of the organization in that regard. I don't think it's a big effort to make Morey a national star, he gets invited and he shows up.
Good point there. JVG was actually a little more open in that regard -- talking with the media. Maybe if he was still the coach, Morey wouldn't be so much in the forefront.
