Besides blocking shots, how does TJones do what Josh Smith does? That's just an uneducated comment. Josh Smith is a strong defender at the 4. He's not worth his salary, but let's not get carried away. TJones is not on par with Josh Smith. Josh Smith isn't the best offensive player, but he's playing the 3 right now when he should be playing the 4. Furthermore, the paint is completely clogged in Detroit.
you would have to move the three point line at least 6 ft in, so he can be an efficient shooter from 3.
a line going straight up, a line descending about 30 degrees right from the top of the first ending level with the first, then one going straight up from the base of the second line. Then shift a little further to the right and something resembling an oval shape
Even Pap is worth way more to the Rox than Josh Smith. Pap can at least create, play some defense, come up with critical rebounds, and come up with steals. Smith would destroy the team and make Harden and Howard want to puke when it's all said and done...
We can argue he can't shoot 3's. But defensively he's 10x better than anything we have at PF. Pap's not even in the same ballpark defensively
Agreed. People getting carried away hating on Josh Smith. Don't confuse things he is with things he isn't. He's a terrible shooter who takes terrible shots at terrible times. But he's a great defender who can slide over to the 3 and the 4; great transition player and finishes great above the rim. Yes, he would make us better defensively. Yes, he would make us worse offensively. For his salary and our current roster, does not make sense to try to get him at all. I was more interested the summer of Dwight, but different team, different time. Also, Smith relies heavily on athleticism and with each passing minute, he becomes less valuable as a basketball player.
I wouldn't mind Josh Smith. Our starting 5 would perhaps be the best defensive unit in the game (Bev, Harden, Ariza, Smith, Howard). I'd only do the deal if we didn't lose too much value in terms of players. I like our group, Smith isn't THAT much of an upgrade over D-Mo, Jones and Papa right now.
My construction company is looking for a brick layer...but judging from his shot chart, we'd probably end up with a pile of bricks on the next lot.
Maybe or maybe not. If commits to attacking the basket instead of jacking up 3's we'll be a deadly offensive team. His shots will come mostly off fastbreaks, or teams doubling off Howard or Harden. So he'll have wide open lanes to the rim. We'd definitely lead the league in fastbreak points & forced turnovers
Jo-S just doesn't fit in with our big man crowd of D-Ho, D-Mo, T-Jo or J-Do. Maybe he would if he were more of a S-Jo (or, if you're from the South, another "so-ja" in Dwight's army of big men).
he definitely must "move lines" so to say to make a move for josh smith. he can move lines side by side maybe?
i was high on josh smith during the free agency but thats because i wanted anyone better than thomas robinson. josh smith straight suck major a*s. dude thinks he is a 3 point specialist
Wonder why everyone is hating Smith for shooting 1.4 3p per game this season.... Goes to show how everyone is talking based reputation instead of facts. Back to topic, can Rox just pay him 7.5M and have Josh Smith play defense only?
im not knocking him for this threes, he just doesnt fit here. first of all, 12million dollars. 2nd, no spacing. at the end of howards prime he shouldnt have a no spacing big like smith next to him. dmo and jones arent the best spacers but they give something, a lot better than smith. he's still one of the most underrated and talented bigs out there, but he's a terrible fit with the rockets. he does a lot of things well other than shooting. in short above average in defense, rebounding, making his own shot, and passing for a big. if his contract was at 5-7 and he'd agree to be a 6th man here im all for it.
