If he can pull off LMA without loosing Ariza and Capela, then he will be in the genius hall of fame with Einstein and Newton.
So many bad posters. Morey got Dwight Howard in 2013. He swung for the fences on Bosh in 2014, got burned by it, yet still managed to improve the team by signing Ariza wisely letting Parsons walk and maintaining flexibility that allowed us to get Brewer and Smith. He's not an idiot, and he doesn't panic and settle for short term mediocrity like other GMs. There are no great options at PG. He'll wait for the dust to settle on the spending spree, and then he'll go find us some guys to improve the team via trade.
If Feb of 2016 we lost Smith, Brewer and Bev and gained no one else, yes we would be worse. Why are you making a hypothetical now in July 2015
And you don't think we would make additional moves if we lost Bev, Brewer, and Smith? We did last year, and I have no reason to believe he wouldn't this go around. You literally just explained in that post why we should wait and see, and let Morey do his job.
Rox just made WCF thanks to flexibility. I like how everyone here disses the very thing that enabled the Rox to sign Josh Smith, Brewer and Jet. Morey is now an experienced GM, and he has a crack staff of analysts and decision makers to back him up. They do this for a living, you just spent 10 secs thinking about this before you posted. You think they don't know what the team needs are at this point? FYI, the Rox are waiting for LMA because he's the biggest asset you can get, if you get LMA then it makes DMO/Tjones/Smith expendable and you can then trade them for pgs. It wouldn't make sense to trade for a low end pg only to find out you will get LMA and thus have a glut on PFs, or do the reverse and trade your PFs for a better pg only to find out LMA is going to SA or the Suns. He's the domino which will fall similar to Bosh last year, once we know where he's headed then the Rox can make their moves accordingly.
So Brewer is back, next to follow will be Josh. Then we wait on the market for Patrick and trade for a better pg, mo, Collison, Lawson,?
Harden can run the point But why have our best playmaker mentally tire himself out for an entire 82 game season plus 15+ playoff games every year when you can get another PG that should be able to lighten that burden at times. I don't understand why Aldridge wouldn't consider Houston. Phoenix has an aging center in Chandler that if injured who do they have. Spurs have an almost retired PF Duncan who may not be able to play every game this year or rested often. Houston has the best actual Center (despite missing half the games last year) and has Capela as his backup so LaMarcus is guaranteed to stay at the PF position. Plus once Dunca, Parker and Ginoboli all leave who is left besides Leonard? I think Aldridge doesn't want to come to a team with another playmaking ball-dominant guard like he had in Portland and since he doesn't see a true PG with Houston he is hesitant. Hopefully we will find out tonight that Houston isn't one of his top destinations so we can move on in trying to get a PG. I applaud DM for going for it but we can't wait 2-4 more days on this without at least talking to other teams about the possibility of a trade to get a PG or talking to FA PGs to come right in. I like Beverley mainly because he is young and knows our system. All we would need now is to get another young PG to start and distribute the ball. If we lost Beverley then we would need to find TWO young PGs to learn our system that can fit in our budget. Lastly, we have a plethora of forwards and drafted a really good possible starting forward as chips in future trades. We can easily drop off Jones and maybe even Dekker to get a nice quality PG (if not now then perhaps at the trade deadline). And if by some crazy miracle we landed LA and had to trade Ariza to make it work then we still have a young Dekker that maybe able to take his place.
As I stated, there was no reason for us to make a big move like other teams were trying to do. We have now signed back Bev, and Brew, now we focus on Smoove, and try to get a SnT for a quality young pg. No need to panic like many of you were, Morey knows exactly what he is doing. I'm pretty convinced LMA will end up in SA. In the meantime have they upgraded their team? maybe, Dallas? nope Portland? definitely not, Clippers? downgraded Okc ? will be better if healthy but about a 5th seed. In other words top teams will remain the Warriors Rockets Memphis. The ones that kept their core.
If/when we bring in a traditional, playmaking PG Harden is still gonna be our primary playmaker by a long shot. He's one of the best in the league at passing and making plays. I agree we could use someone to alleviate a little of his duties and someone there for when he's not playing but you are kidding yourself if you think Hardens role would diminish all that much and it rightfully shouldn't.
I didn't say they didn't, I said maybe. I think that losing Splitter, possibly Joseph, an older Tim , Manu may not play, and TP is declining they may be what they were last year.
What if Morey is a genius and the team is not up to his genius standard? He can get all the parts, but they do not play like a championship team. Well, we will see.
It doesn't make him look like a genius, but it continues to validate his competence..people were freaking out about ending up with less, but Morey always plans ahead and covers his bases...he knows when he can afford to play the waiting game and when he has to act.
