Morey asked about trading for Dirk Nowitzki after signing Dwight

Teams can take back 125%+100k of the salary they ship out.


Lin & Asik combine for 16.75m meaning they could take back 21,037,500 , not enough for Dirk.


They have to ship out 18.1m (*125%=22.625+100k) to be able to take back Dirks 22.72m.

Not saying they should , could or would do this .... Just trying to explain the rules / numbers involved.

Seriously though, Morey and Cuban are friends but very competitive ones. Cuban contributes heavily to the Sloan conference, but they have very different views on certain analytic debates. Its almost like sibling rivalry.

Also Cuban is close friends with Fegan who is the agent for Chandler. Chandler is going after him in free agency I guarantee you that much... even if just to gain competitive edge and make Houston overpay.

Overall though... its good for both teams & cities to have a rivalry. Cuban's right... he might very well have helped Les sell a few more tickets just now.

 

Maybe Morey offered to trade Dwight for Dirk. And Cuban said he didn't want Dwight.

That is unfortunately true, for now. But there is no "D" in big D and eventually that will catch up with them. While the same can be said of us presently, I think we have the personnel to improve while Dallas does not.

I think we will have the last laugh, but that isn't guaranteed by any means.

 

Mavs are a ASIK (rim protector & rebounder) away from being top 4 in the west...

we should finish ahead of them but they have a great coach also

 

The Mavs could be 30 and 4 in January and Cuban would still rather have Dwight no matter what he says. The Mavs won't be able to defend anyone in the playoffs, and teams like OKC/SA will scheme well enough to shut down the Dirk/Monta P&R fairly easily.

The Monta/Dirk combo can score points… thats about it. With a few more months, upgrade the perimeter defense, and a few personnel moves (Asik trade, etc), the Rockets will be miles better than the Mavs… You can mark my words.

Morey thought Dwight wasn't going to sign with Houston because of Iggy signing with GS, so he called about a Dirk trade?? What?
