Not likely. Not many guys who could go from two broken down max players who left for almost nothing in return, and replace them without ever having a losing season. Morey's made mistakes, but there's no such thing a a GM that doesn't make mistakes.
Unfair? Morey does things like this all the time lol. He tried to sign Dirk KNOWING he wasn't leaving Dallas, but for the simple fact it would piss Cuban off. He found a loophole in the offer sheet for Lin when NY matched it. He fired JVG without telling him embarrassing him in public. This guy is known to be arrogant among other GM's and agents. Unfortunately, Cuban has pulled his card. Now we see if he's truly the genius y'all hype him to be
Lin instead of Goran... cyberex posted something that basically exonerates Morey for that. Lin was Les' choice.
Les sticks his hands in Morey's GM business, Morey sticks his hands in McHale's coaching philosophy, mchales puts his hands in a Lowrys play making skills. Or 80 year old tells a nerd, the nerd tells the all star pf coach, the pf coach tells the pg
Couldn't Morey have just extended Parsons contract before letting him become a FA or RFA? Players seem to like Cuban because he shows he'll take care of them. Not so much with Morey.
I'm starting to think Les is the real problem. Either the Rockets have some of the worst luck I've ever seen with draft picks and free agent signings in a nearly 20 year span during the tenure of several different GMs and coaches or they have a bumbling, meddling owner who doesn't hire quality basketball people and allow them to make personnel decisions. Remember, Les inherited that championship team. And the 2nd title was mostly the same core aside from Clyde(I will give Les props for having the stones to allow that move). But what has this team accomplished since then when he was in complete control and able to put his fingerprints all over the organization?
Yao's foot problems were not Les' fault. Here's what is: Scottie Pippen, Rodrick Rhodes, Mirsad Turkcan, Bryce Drew, passing on Rashard Lewis, Mo Taylor, Moochie Norris, Matt Maloney, Kelvin Cato, Walt Williams, Glen Rice, Eddie Griffin, Boki Nachbar, letting James Posey walk, Rod Strickland, Juwan Howard, Luther Head, letting Goran Dragic walk and replacing him with Jeremy Lin, Marcus Morris, and Royce White. To name but a few. Now did Les personally make all these decisions? Of course not. But they've happened on his watch over the course of a decade and a half during which the team has won a single playoff series. And it's not like we've been saddled with the same lousy coach and/or GM this entire time. At some point, we have to admit the unfortunate truth as fans that this is not a well-run organization. These were not a bunch of really good personnel moves that were plagued by injuries. There are some truly horrific signings, draft choices, and trades that have crippled this team and directly led to their playoff futility and frequent visits to the lottery. The one constant in all of this is Les Alexander. I no longer consider it a mere coincidence.
One thing we can be sure of: when Morey let Parsons become a RFA, he knew this was possible. In other words, he is not surprised. Call him what you will: Morey is prepared for this scenario.
There's still tomorrow. Then the day after free agency begins. Then 3 days from when we GET the papers. Remember Lin's took a few days to get to NY so we just gotta hope it takes long enough for Bosh or someone else to commit to us.
Royce White (-1), Terrence The Squid Williams (-1), failing to sign Goran Dragic(-2), Joey Dorsey(-1), Marcus Morris over Leonard(-2) and letting CP25 into RFA a year to early(-2). -9 for Morey Signing DH (+10) and Harden (+7) + 17 for Morey he still ahead of the game. Does he get points for drafting CP25 to begin with ? Rocket River
