I just heard that they intend to keep the organic web-shooter but that Peter Parker will create a mechincal wrist device to control the web fluid.

I would give the link but the info also has some spoilers and I know most people hate spoilers. [IMG]

I would never want to ruin a classic story like this.

I like the idea...what do you guys think?

    Thanks for the scoop, Dennis!

Ugh... I guess it's an acceptable compromise. [IMG]

He does get to use his intelligence at least...

I wonder if he'll ever have to worry about "running out" of the stuff. They're throwing away all those neat little possible plot twists of Spidey running out of webbing at just the wrong time and the entire angle of him saving enough money to make the stuff. Also, that was always a huge disadvantage that he had against Venom(as he should be a lock for a future sequel) who didn't have to conserve his own organic webbing.

BTW, Dennis... what do you think of the casting of Tobey Maguire as Parker and Nicholas Cage as the Green Goblin?

I don't like it....spider senses is one thing. Organic web fluid is another. Stick to the original story. This is out of control. He is not a spider! He is a nerd who thinks he's a spider. If I want to see a human transformed into an insect, I'll go rent "The Fly". Thumbs down to the organic webshooter. I guess he will make his own silk shirts and sheets in the movie, too. Maybe he can open his own store?

    Antisonic~

I am ok with the Peter Parker kid but I would have liked Liam Neeson to play Green Goblin(who was rumored to play him anyway). Cage is a quality actor and I do not have any problem with him.

About running out of the stuff. It does not appear that the directors will even let that happen, but I agree that a nice plot twist is to run out at the wrong time.

From what I have read of the script is that they have tried to keep as close to the comic story as possible while giving it a more up-to-date feel to it. Remember that the original story of Spidey's origin was many years ago and the technologies have gotten much better since then.

Slight changes do not bother me as long as it plays out well.

I don't like it at all.

    1) If they are going to bring Spiderman to the big screen, they should try to remain true to the origional story. Most of the people who see the movie want to see the superhero brought to life, not changed. There's just no good reason for this change. People who care about staying true to the story will be irritated, and those who don't, won't care.

    2) One of the things that has caused the marvel super heros to endure is that their powers have a story behind them. There's a quasi-scientific explanation behind every one.

I don't want to say their explations are realistic, but they do tend to stay within the bounds of sci-fi reality. Wolverine's claws come out of his arms, Superman is strong because Krypton had high gravity, etc. Spiderman's powers of strength, sixth sense, wall crawling, etc., can be somewhat explained. Sprouting webs out his wrists just doesn't follow -- especially if he has to make something to control them.

You know, on spiders, the spinnerettes don't come out of the legs/wrists anyway. I do not want to see a spiderman with spiderwebs coming out of the correct place, if you know what I mean.
