I agree Sampson and Olajuwon are the best 1-2 punch...... but they aren't guards.

Lewis Lloyd and Mitchell Wiggins were good, but Wiggins didn't even start in their finals run, and they both got booted from the league before they really had a chance to prove anything.

Kenny Smith was a three point specialist.

Clyde was on the downhill side when he played for Houston. He was still very good, but not the player he had been.

Cassell was a scorer off the bench, but he didn't even start, and basically only looked to score when he came in.

Mad Max was a very solid player, comparable to Cat. A better defender, but not quite as good a scorer.

Our three guard combos during the two titles:
    Max Clyde
    Kenny Kenny
    Sam Sam

were better than Steve, Cat and Moochie. However, I'd give just a slight edge to Steve and Cat over the starters (Max, Kenny and Clyde, Kenny) on the title teams. This is primarily because I wasn't a huge believer in Kenny Smith.

I won't comment on Lucas, Murphy and Newlin because I never saw them.

I just thought that this needed to be said again.

Lucas is still the best point guard the Rockets have ever had and Murphy is a hall of famer.

Get back to me when Francis averages 9.37 assists a game (Lucas) and Mobley averages 26 pts a game on 49% FGP (Murphy)

I dont know why people down Kenny so much. He was clutch. And look at his two best years as a Rocket. Not shabby numbers. Remember he put up these numbers while giving the ball to such players as Hakeem, Thorpe, Mad Max, and Drexler. He was maybe the 4th scoring option. Those were some pretty good numbers.

Until Francis and Mobley play better defense, no.

It's nice that they combine for 40 ppg, but it's bad when they give up 40 ppg.

I blame Cat and Steve's bad "D", on no interior defense.
    (see Cato)
yes, Steve and Cat will become the best back-court combo to ever play for the Rockets..

    The operative word is will.

For now, let's give the 'Best Backcourt' title to the HOFer, the 'Pocket Rocket' (Murphy) and the man who could\should have been (Lucas).

Francis is a very good PG, but Mobley has got to be one of the dumbest players I have every seen.

Mobley is a rare player who can score 25 points, and actually hurt his team, because his selfish play shuts out the other four members of the offense. The Rockets will never win a championship with Mobley playing 35+ minutes a game.

The thought of Mobley and Moochie dribbling the ball and waiting to make a selfish drive while the clock runs down makes me want to puke.

The Rockets really need to trade Mobley, but alas- they can't. They have allowed Francis to hold them hostage for the sake of "team chemistry". Why should Francis have any say about roster changes????????? Hell, trade them both, and build the team around Ming and Griffin. We would be better off.
