Mark Appel allowed a run (on a sac fly), a hit, walked 4, and struck out 4 in 2 innings against Burlington tonight.

The chances of that happening in that ballpark are astronomical. I'd probably be the jackwagon that tried to lay down a bunt during a perfect game lol.
Thursday Stories Mark Appel. Greeneville going for a lucky 13. Tri-City wrapped up their home-and-home with Hudson Valley. Recap Omaha 2, Oklahoma City 1 in 12 innings Jason Stoffel gave up a sac fly with 2 outs in the 12th, and the Redhawks dropped the series finale. They lost the series 3-2. Jimmy Paredes hit a solo homer (7) in the 5th for OKC's only run of the night. Robbie Grossman and Ruben Sosa both went 2-4. Jake Buchanan went 7 innings and allowed a run on a solo homer to Christian Colon in the 1st. He scattered 7 other hits, walked 1, and struck out 4. Also, he induced 13 groundouts against 1 flyout. Kevin Chapman threw 2 scoreless and allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 2. Stoffel allowed the winning run. He went 2 2/3 and allowed a hit, walked 5, and struck out 1. The Redhawks will return home to start off a 4-game series with Iowa. In the opener, Wade LeBlanc will take on Justin Grimm. First pitch is at 7:05. Corpus Christi 5, Midland 1 For the 2nd straight night, Corpus got a fine performance from a starter and got the win to show for it. David Martinez went the distance for a 2nd consecutive start. This time, he went the usual 9 innings. He allowed a run on 9 hits, walked 1, and struck out 8 to improve to 12-2 on the season. On the offensive end, the Hooks broke a 1-1 tie by busting out for 4 in the 6th. Drew Muren stole home as part of a double steal in the 3rd to put them on the board first. The RockHounds tied it in the 5th on an RBI single from Chad Oberacker. Corpus had the perfect response, though. Zach Johnson led off the 6th with a single and advanced to 2nd after Jio Mier was hit by a pitch. Ronald Torreyes laid down a sac bunt, but an error allowed Johnson to score the go-ahead run and Torreyes found himself on 2nd. After Muren walked to load the bases, Preston Tucker hit a 2-run single. All of this came with no outs. They even scored a run while recording an out, too. Max Stassi was the first casualty of the inning, but that came on a sac fly. Johnson and Mier both went 2-3 with a run scored. Domingo Santana was 2-5 to join them in the 2-hit club for the night. The Hooks and Rockhounds will play a doubleheader with game 1 starting at 5:00. Nick Tropeano will take on Drew Granier. Game 2 is a makeup of a game that was postponed on the 17th with the Hooks and Hounds tied at 4. Apparently that game wasn't suspended. It's listed as postponed, so the slate will be wiped clean, I guess. San Jose 4, Lancaster 3 The Jethawks couldn't get the sweep, but they told Clayton Blackburn "F your perfect game dawg" as they mounted a valiant rally that just fell short. Andrew Aplin ended that bid with a double in the 7th. Matt Duffy tripled with 1 out in the 8th and came home on a Chris Epps double that put the Jethawks on the board. In the bottom of the 9th, Delino DeShields greeted Derek Law with a single to lead off, and Nolan Fontana gave his regards with an RBI triple. Aplin was back at it, as he brought Fontana home with a single to make it a 4-3 game. Unfortunately, M.P. Cokinos, Tyler Heineman, and Duffy were all cut down to end the game. Aaron West actually had a bare minimum quality start. The 3 runs he gave up all came in the 2nd. He allowed 6 hits, walked 1, and struck out 5. Tyson Perez gave up a solo homer to Ricky Oropesa in the top of the 9th. He allowed 2 other hits and fanned 4. The Jethawks will now hit the road and will take on Rancho Cucamonga in a 3-game series beginning at 7:05 Pacific. Mike Hauschild will be taking on Lindsey Caughel. Burlington 5, Quad Cities 2 Mark Appel's control was a bit shaky. He only allowed a run (on a sac fly in the 1st) and a hit, but he walked 4 and struck out 4. Dan Minor went 2 2/3 and allowed 2 runs on 5 hits, walked 2, and struck out 3. Mitch Lambson allowed 2 runs (both on a 2-run homer) on 2 hits, walked 1, and struck out 3. The River Bandits' 2 runs came in the 2nd on a 2-run double from Brian Blasik. Carlos Correa went 2-4 with a double and a steal (9). In the series finale, Vince Velasquez will take on Ryan Crowley at 6:30. Tri-City 1, Hudson Valley 0 Jon Kemmer's solo homer (4) in the 9th broke a scoreless tie, and 3 ValleyCats pitchers combined on a 2-hitter as they shut out the Renegades for the 2nd straight evening and took 2 of 3 from them. Obviously, Kemmer's homer was the only run of the game. James Ramsay went 2-4. Tony Kemp went 1-3 with a steal (14). Zach Morton allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 3 over 5 shutout innings. Albert Minnis allowed a hit in a scoreless 6th, and Randall Fant threw 3 perfect innings to get the win, striking out 3. Tri-City will wrap up this roadtrip with 2 in Vermont beginning at 7:05 Eastern. Kevin Comer and Evan Grills will take on Lou Trivino. Greeneville 3, Johnson City 2 13! Also, sweep!!! The Appy Astros nipped the Cardinals thanks to an 8th-inning sac fly from Chase McDonald. He also hit an RBI single in the 1st that tied the game at 1. Brett Phillips hit an RBI single in the 3rd. Tanner Mathis went 3-4 with a run scored and a steal (6), and Tyler White went 2-4. Frederick Tiburcio went 6 innings and allowed 2 runs (1 earned) on 2 hits, walked 5, and struck out 4. Raul Rivera allowed 2 hits and struck out 2 over 3 scoreless to get the victory. Greeneville will now host Pulaski in a 3-game set beginning at 7:00 Eastern. TBA will face Luiz Gohara, a Brazilian who was the crown jewel of the Mariners' international signing class last year. He'll be 17 next Wednesday. GCL Braves 3, GCL Astros 1 in 8 innings This game was called due to rain. Naturally, the scheduled game was postponed as well. Brian Holmes allowed a hit and struck out 6 over 4 shutout innings. After play resumed, Joe Musgrove came on and threw 3 scoreless, then the wheels fell off in the 8th. He gave up 3 runs (2 inherited) on 4 hits and struck out 5. Kevin Ferguson didn't record an out, but he did give up a 2-run single before the game was called. They got their run in the 1st on a Jose Solano groundout. Solano hit a triple in the top of the 8th. Jason Martin singled and scored the lone run. The GCLstros will play the Tigers in Kissimmee at noon Eastern. DSL Red Sox 7, DSL Astros 5 in 19 innings Wow........ Seriously? The Red Sox got 2 in the top of the 19th. The Academy had Hector Roa on 2nd but stranded him there to end it. Arturo Michelena hit a sac fly in the 2nd to put the Academy on the board first. Kristian Trompiz drew a bases-loaded walk in the 8th to tie the game at 2. The Sox scored 3 in the top of the 14th, but the Astros didn't want this game to end, so they responded with 3 of their own. Brian Peña drew a 2-out walk, then Hector Roa got on board. Jarico Reynoso brought them home with a 2-run triple, and then Luis Payano tied it with a single. Reynoso, Roa, Payano, and Randy Cesar had 2 hits that morning. Harold Arauz went 5 innings and gave up 2 unearned runs on 3 hits and struck out 6. Junior Garcia, who Oz Ocampo told us to keep an eye on, allowed a hit, walked 1, and struck out 2 in 3 scoreless innings. Angel Heredia allowed 2 hits and fanned 5 over 5 shutout innings. Yonquelys Martinez got the loss, as he absorbed 5 runs (1 earned) on 4 hits, walked 1, and fanned 4 over 6 innings.
Yeah, Hallock and Cruz combined for a no hitter earlier this year (or last year?), and I think that was only their second no hitter in history.
David Martinez is putting together an astonishing season in CC. If not for the tandem system he probably doesn't even get a chance to start this year. Since the tandem system ended he's only gotten better. 12-2 1.98 ERA 0.99 WHIP 4.1 K/BB ratio The scouting reports say he has a great low 90's sinker ,a good slider and a changeup. If he's sharpened the changeup that is a major league arsenal. I'm not salivating at his potential, but when someone puts up those kind of numbers you have to take notice.
It's probably just the latest news of Braun, A-Rod, Colon, etc...but is anyone else worried that perhaps Tyler Heineman decided recently that it was worth the risk to start up on some PEDs?
Yep, it's fantastic when a non-prospect unexpectedly produces enough to be major league viable. Guys like Martinez, Chapman, and Stoffel may end up being a big part of our bullpen next year. Martinez and Stoffel in particular are strike throwers, which we need in the worst way.
The depth of pitching borders on being absurd. I realize there are no guarantees at the major league level, but holy crap there's a lot there to be excited about.
