That was before a lot of people started eating crap for food. Still, you can't have it both ways. A well regulated militia is the national guard so if this is what's being stated...hmmmm...

Yep because we didn’t have the same type of organized law enforcement and military....

Did you know we also shared North America with a much more powerful Britain, France, and Spain in the 18th century?

Not at all. Well regulated meant well armed. Regulated definitely had a wider meaning in those days. Anyone can be a part of a milita and that is protected. National guard or others. The bill of rights was not soley made for that group.

That really doesn't change anything. The guns are there to fight tyanny as well in addition to protecting us from foreign invasion. There is a reason the us has not been invaded and part of it boils down to how logistically difficult attacking a well armed population would be. Also man has a right to defend his property and person.

And don't forget the plains were controlled by several powerful Indian tribes.

    Indeed....

It’s almost like the conditions that existed in the 18th century no longer exist.

Well maintained, sure, but I don't see 'well armed' as necessary for a "well-regulated militia." You can be too dirt poor to arm everyone, but still be a well disciplined, orderly fighting force. I take from that phrase and its historical context that what they were getting at was being well-organized, disciplined, trained, effective. And sure, armed appropriately within whatever confines of their funding.

    Yawn....

We won the American Revolution due to the French.

Hand guns and shot guns are great for defending property... but that’s not enough for the gun nuts.

Well-regulated just meant they ate a lot of fiber. People were more dainty in their language back then.

Off topic -- They really were extremely savage -- people don't talk about how cruel the wars between tribes were. Had Columbus made it into the Gulf and landed on Galveston island and run into the Karankawa and acted with aggression they definitely wouldn't have been making a return trip to Europe.
