How do we know that D'Antoni wouldn't have had better than a .621 winning percentage if he coached that Lakers team that year?

Mike Brown is no good. Even his brother Tad Brown didn't want to hire him.

    Look at playoff records.

Since 2009 Brown is 11-12 in the playoffs.

    But from 2007 Mike D'Antoni is 1-12.

Mike D'Antoni is better because he needed 10 less games to lose 12 games in the playoffs. Rockets are all about efficiency RR. SABERMETRIC-LES!!!

Neither is as bad as people think. The success of coaches is entirely dependent upon the circumstances. Fans continue to give coaches more power in their minds than they actually have in reality.

D'Antoni is a far better coach than Brown.

Brown was an excellent assistant with the Spurs defensively and at one time designed an excellent defensive strategy. The problem is that the league rules changed and Brown's defensive wasn't nearly as effective. Brown failed to make adjustments and continued to run his defense exactly the same.

D'Antoni developed an offense that has been copied by the Spurs to some extent and to a large extent by the Warriors. The difference is that D'Antoni over the years has modified the offense successfully and his handling of the Sixers offense last year was very promising.

I personally wouldn't have hired D'Antoni, I would have hired Silas or Joerger. However I wouldn't be shocked if the Rockets have a reasonable degree of success the next few years. The offense will improve and be more efficient. However I don't think D'Antoni long term has the structure or discipline to set the culture of the team in the right way.

He reminds me of George Karl in his better days. He will design plays, get guys that fill roles and out smart many coaches... but at the end of the day, what do you have?

Dantoni is MUCH MUCH better than Brown and it's not even close.
