Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. "Call Memphis about Conley and Gasol." "Hunh?" "Then leak it to the press that we called. Get it?" "Aha. Keep the fan base guessing. And still buying tickets. Got it!"
im rooting for conley to end up in Indy. Him and oladipo can be a very good backcourt and gives the league another competitive team, particularly the east which is needed. off the top of my head there probably wouldn't be a more suitable fit around the league
You da man. Any idea the overall of the deal? Who does Memphis receive (I would think they wouldn't take on Batum after the Parsons debacle, but who knows?, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me).
[Charania] Memphis has been in conversations with the Jazz and Utah is a frontrunner to acquire Conley should the Grizzlies trade the point guard during draft week, league sources said.
I like Conley but this is just going to make the Utah Jazz win one or two more games against the Rockets. Barring Donovan making the next step and better role players.
I think it adds more stability at their PG spot which is something they didn't have the past two years. Rubio was playing fine for them two years ago and then went down with an injury. Last year they didn't have Exum at all and Rubio missed like 15 games. Of course Conley hasn't been a model for great health either but at least he can both defend and score. You're right in that Mitchell needs to make next year his leap year and make us believe year 2 was just a the Sophomore Slump. If he doesn't make the leap they're screwed.
This might be prescient.... because Conley will turn 32 right as the season starts. So sooner or later there will be more drop-off. But, relative to just the Mike Conley we've seen and saw last year vs. the Jazz with Rubio, Conley is the much better option. Is he so much better as to get them a legit championship run? Well, that's tbd. Was the Blazers a legit championship run this past year - seems like no, but they did make the WCF? The Jazz plus Conley could sneak into the WCF next year, for sure. But no, it doesn't make them an OBVIOUS favorite over any other potential contender.
