Not in my experience, no. My father is the one paying for my mothers prescriptions as she is unable to work, and his benefits covered much more in the states. Bear in mind he's not your "typical" American, and he makes over six figures, so his benefits through employment were quite nice. My mother has an extremely rare condition, so she frequently needs to pay out of pocket to see specialists in Canada. It's not a small fee, but she can afford it. Just remember this is anecdotal and it's more of a case-by-case thing in the U.S considering alot of healthcare is privatized & set up through employment. I will say, though, a few of my friends work in shipping warehouses out of the Katy area, and they pay very little for their coverage aswell. Again, they're healthy, young men, and they don't need much for benefits, so their plan probably doesn't work for the next guy/woman, etc. You'll have better luck with healthcare, in my experience, being employed through a bigger corporation. The system is FAR from perfect in either country though. I'd imagine if my mother was single she'd have a very hard time getting help, whether in the U.S or Canada, considering she's unable to work & make money herself, unless she's doing forensics from home. It's unfortunate.
Tens of millions of Americans are losing their medical insurance when they are laid off. COBRA is an expensive cruel joke for most. Hospitals are losing money like crazy as they have lost access to the elective surgery high fees. It is estimated that medical insurance will go up 40% next year to recoup lost profits for insurers. More folks are thinking why can I be treated only for Covid 19 with no fee, but not cancer etc. I know all cc fans are comfortably employed with savings and great medical insurance they just love, but do you think it might now be time to join the rest of the modern world and have national health insurance for all? Asking for others.
