After what has happened to Harden this season regarding his MVP trophy, its about time the MVP voting system needs a change. Media members should not get to vote for MVP, it should go the players and coaches, possibly the owners as well. All this talk about splitting the trophy, having 2 different awards, it only so happens when Harden is about to become the MVP of the league, ridiculous.
It really does not make any sense that the media gets to vote. It is obvious that they either do not watch enough NBA games to make educated in depth decisions based on impact to a team. The MVP trophy should be a performance based award, not a popularity contest thrown by individuals with agendas. They are not able to report in an unbiased manner and are influenced by their networks and executives who have ties to particular agents, endorsements, teams, hometowns etc. The league also needs to provide guidance on what the award is so that the people with votes can't just keep switching their rationale to fit their agenda. Clearly state that it is a regular season award based on the performance from the current season, as well as other parameters to what the award is so the talking heads can make consistent decisions.
What has happened to Harden this season regarding his MVP trophy? He’s going to win it this year quite comfortably and we all know this.
Until the media unanimously agrees that Harden is MVP, stops bringing up other contenders like Lebron, nothing is certain.
I think they need to change up the format, similar to what they did with all-star, except take out the fan portion of it. The vote totals should be a combination of media, coaches and players. Utilize a rule where coaches and players are not allowed to vote for anyone in their own team. You wouldn't get things like "unanimous MVP" anymore, and being a player that has good relationships around the league would be pretty advantageous to your MVP campaign, but you wouldn't need to worry about making the media happy anymore.
Harden is winning it, it’s already been decided...people need to stop being so paranoid, it’s not a good look Bron or AD will get a couple 1st place votes, that’s it
Is the NBA the only league that has this much manufactured drama around the MVP award? Do they argue like this over NFL MLB awards or do they just announce it and everyone goes on with their day?
Bribery. Totally understand. Advertisement pays the money to the media. Media has right to choose the star who pays a lot of advertisement fee.
What has happened? This is past tense. They already voted? Am I missing something here, did he get robbed again? I can't believe they voted and he got robbed again. I agree with OP since this has already happened.
