BOB clearly saw Watson developing rapidly in camp (he said as much) and we already knew Savage is a good training camp QB. When the season started, he still thought Savage gave the Texans a better chance to win. He also didn't want to throw Watson to the wolves too early and shatter his confidence. It's understandable.

On the other hand, as a freshman at Clemson, Watson did very well when thrown in the fire (anyone else here remember the Florida State game, GRRR!), before getting injured in his 3rd start. At the same time, it was already obvious Savage had a very low upside. I suppose BOB thought the defense could carry the Texans past the Jags.

I dunno, starting Savage in game 1 still doesn't seem crazy to me.

I'm accepting the premise that he really didn't want to start a rookie QB on day one... and nobody realized how bad this line really was till they faced a pretty damn good Jacksonville front 7, and it was more apparent that a statue QB wasn't going to get it done.

But again, its not like he let this go 3-4 (or 8) games before finally deciding that Savage wasn't able to do the things that Watson may be able to do, given this team. It was one half of one game... and sometimes you do need actual games to make adjustments/decisions on what your team is. You just can't simulate this stuff in training camp or pre-season.

Starting him and pulling him after 1 half does seem crazy to me though.

He had to pull Savage. They were down 19-0 and Savage was the living definition of impotent. BOB would have be roasted much more if he left Savage in.

Savage just doesn't have the mental quickness to be an NFL QB against a pash rush. A backup at best; a practice squad QB for the defense at worst.

I'm not sure that's fair, he doesn't have the mobility to survive with a trash O line and you can't have a pure pocket QB when there isn't going to be a pocket. When you have a guy like Watson, he's able to buy himself time by running for his life and that has been invaluable.

I'll say, I wasn't thrilled with his downfield passing in preseason...

This guy is the real deal. Down the field, slants, outs, touch on it, stank on it, in the pocket, on the move....

Oh and he ran 1 TD and basically forced the defense into giving one to Miller.

    Never seen anything like it.

Derpflop why are you posting here? We had a wager that you wouldn't post until 2018 if Texans lose to the Patriots

Come on man, don't be a coward. Stick to the bet.

OP is a self-proclaimed Dallas Cowboys fan.

Cheers for Dallas before 1) Watson 2) Hopkins' hands and 3) BoB's schemes.

    Silly thread

Doesn't seem like derp's word is worth very much. Honestly, I think that it is kind of a b**** move to go back on your word, but what can you expect? Not everyone here is a real man with honor.

He's probably just some 15 year old a$$hole

    I'm a 31 year old *******....

Also, you said A year and then something about 2019 which isn't a year. I asked 2018? But you said nothing.

    We didn't shake on it.

Go on and act like you aren't rooting for the Texans when we know you are, talking **** about great athletes and trying to goad real fans into taking astronomically stupid bets on the off chance a troll has a shred of "honor" just because some of us would like you to stfu once in a while.

It's funny that Texans fans are so resistant to give credit to the current regime for going out and making a move to get Watson that there are people trying to lass the narrative that we "lucked" into Watson.

The team said that he was their target all along. Of course they would have, but they made the move to get him. Give them credit.

I wanted Mahomes. I'm thrilled we got Watson instead. I guess the powers that be know a lot more than me.

Once BOB got a qb that could learn the basics of the offense, he opened up the playbook. Now he has defenses running in circles.
