A lot of restaurants lie about serving halal meat.

Halal to some could mean simply not pork. What Muslim people are really looking when searching for a halal spot is if the meat is zabiha or not.

There are places in Houston that people question regularly like Kasra.

I think everyone should read the entire article before posting. It seems they came to a good agreement with most of the money going to charity.

Do you have any experience with Halal meat? I know about grocery stores that sell it but are the cows processed clearer than a factory slaughterhouse?

I'd like to buy my meat local and as little processed as possible including the way it's slaughtered. Can a regular hispanic guy just walk in and buy meat without being looked at funny?

You absolutely can. It helps that you're hispanic lol, brown blends in more. A white guy would definitely get stares. Just go in and ask the guy at the front to help you out. While some halal shops aren't the most customer friendly, you can certainly ask around. If not, you can ask the butchers in the back- they tend to not be asian, so I'm sure they'd get a kick out of seeing someone other than the usual clientele they get.

I would think that they're probably not treated any differently while being raised- livestock is usually bought from nearby ranches that sell to many places. The way the animal is killed does make a difference though. It's cleaner since the blood is drained, and it's more humane because you're supposed to kill the animal quickly so as to cause as little pain as possible.

Only thing I question about Kasra is whether or not they put crack in that feta cheese. So good.

Jewish people usually can't eat non kosher stuff which is more strict. Like the oven has to be kosher.

Most Iranian-Americans are secular, so it would make sense if it's not halal.

There are many places that say halal or kosher or nothing depending on who comes in the store. At the end of the day God doesn't care what meat you eat.

Mixed answers. Most super religious people avoid it and prefer Bijan.

Agreed. Members of the Muslim community called the McDonald's franchise on misrepresenting their product, the franchise agreed to pay the money to a charity. Both sides are satisfied, what's their to argue?

Is it me or does halal meat taste better than regular meat? I've had it a few times and its a lot better than regular meat, the taste that is.

Thats what my parents used to think. IMO that is f'n stupid.

I have personally been to a few different halal butcher shops and for the life of me can't understand how the health dept. is not shutting them down.

Bismillah Grocers in Clear Lake for example. I see a delivery truck parked there with the doors open and the meat just laying out in the open for about half an hour with no movement. The owner tells me his beef is very fresh. Just off the ranch. Yeah right....

They are chopping chickens, goat, beef, lamb, etc. all on one table, etc.

I'm Muslim/Indian and would never trust any of these halal places. If you think you are getting quality meat you are highly mistaken. They are going to try to cut as many corners as possible to keep their prices low.

And as someone mentioned already, does one really think Allah gives a **** if you are eating halal or not?

I've bought halal meats on occasion and found it to be rather dry when cooked. I figured it was a result of the butchering process draining all of the blood.
