I almost took a job with the company that markets the product known as "pink slime". And I know for a fact that McDonald's did use it. And it's still in use around the word. Not by McDonald's, but there are companies that use it.
That thing they call the hash brown is the ultimate laxative for me. If I have to eat a McDonald's breakfast away from home, then I pass on that hash brown.
They could so easily become healthier as well as jump on the health gimmick gravy train. Sea salt this, whole wheat that. Free range chicken. Charge more and add some more exotic things maybe like fresh smoothies. I wished I was a ceo
Exactly. It's pure corporate think. Any solution that would reduce profit by even one hundredth of one percent is a non starter.

My 2 year old son won't touch a happy meal mcnuggets. But he'll tear a raising canes chicken tenders meal.
The American food consumption trends have changed dramatically over the past decade. Don't get me wrong, we're still not eating healthy, despite common misconception. You think Chitpole, Baja Fresh, Cosi, or any of those customized pizza flatbread restaurants are "healthier" for you than McDonald's or BK? In your dreams! What has changed is that Americans now want QUALITY along with their quick meals. Since the 1960-2010, American restaurants have focused on mass production of food, completely ignoring quality. Unseen low-grade meat + made the same way + save a few bucks = happy family. Then in the last 4-5 years, yoga centers are springing up, people are juicing, organic is the new chic, and we want our food made our way and with quality ingredients. The business model of McDonald's and BK look outdated and no longer appealing. Americans are now willing to spend an extra buck or two to living longer and healthier. Don't get me wrong, there is still a niche for McDonald's/BK in this country - the poor, uneducated, and young. But do these people have that high spending power like the educated, middle-class? Nope. I think the fast-food industry is finally waking up as they see their profits decline. McDonald's can plug holes by shrinking their menu but unless they come up with a new business model, they're going to go into extinct in another 5-10 years.
