McCain fails the lolcat test (again)

This financial crisis has perfectly illustrated how McCain is simply in over his head. Great at blustering over hawkish foreign policy, horrible at understanding economics. He lacks economic instincts because he has never read the proposals given to him. Never. A true candidate of change would read the proposals for dealing with the largest economic crisis in our history, not rushing to the scene of the battle for the sake of political grandstanding. McCain has not done that. He has not led. He lied about stopping his campaigning and then didn't read any of the proposals before meeting with Bush, and all without inspiring a single positive lolcat endorsement, NOT A SINGLE ONE.

Obama said to 'call him' and only showed up after Bush summoned him and he had read through and understood the issues. Basically, Obama is exhibiting all of the leadership skills you'd expect from a thoughtful intelligent candidate who refuses to turn real crises into political opportunities. He's actually able to understand the issues of economics and articulate how he would lead. He has the gravitas and presence to go toe-to-toe and debate a Paulson or a Bernanke all while receiving numerous lolcat endorsements.

What has McCain done to change things? How is he stepping forward to lead? We are mired in a major crisis and he won't even read through the three page report he's been given. He has dodged Letterman under false pretenses, evading Obama's requests for a statement of bipartisan report for the sake of political grandstanding. He is all talk and no action. How did he lead on other big issues? He has more or less abdicated all of his responsibilities in the Senate while running for president. The man basically abandoned the Senate before this political grandstand: he once went five consecutive weeks without voting. He's the Senate's top absentee, passing Democratic Senator Tim Johnson of North Dakota, who suffered a brain hemorrhage in December 2006 and was unable to return to the Senate until last fall, in terms of votes missed. I guess it takes time to suggest doing nothing about America's economic crisis. He simply is not a LEADER. How can anyone say otherwise?

It's these types of complex real world issues where he looks his worst -- when reality sets in, people realize that referring to Ronald Reagan and Alexander the Great isn't what's going to solve a crisis. Ironically, it's during crises that leaders like Obama look their best -- and lolcats are making Obama look much better than McCain on this issue. He's driving the debate, forcefully advancing his position, and showing leadership.
